GM's 2 valves happen to use pushrods. pushrods ftw. otherwise, for OHC, its more advantagous to have more than 2 valves.
+1. With the OHC, it's all about flow. It just reponds better (especially to FI) with more valves opening and closing.

I know this is a hijack, but honestly, I have no idea why? I'm not sure on the specifics for why the 3v/4v heads work better.

GM's 2V heads respond great to N/A applications and F/I applications. Where, it seems that, the Ford 3v/4v heads only respond well to F/I applications and really suffer in the N/A stream of power. And really only make good power when they're coupled with a LARGE form of F/I. A typical small Vortech, or KB only makes in the neighborhood of 400-430rwhp, or eventhe stock Eaton is only making 360rwhp, granted it jumps leaps and bounds with a couple boltons, but still stretches just to see the 500rwhp mark.

Why is that?
Those numbers you quote are low boost numbers. I'm only putting down about 408-410......but I'm only blowing 4-5psi. I can't say that I've seen any blown 2V GTs putting down those numbers on such low boost.

And I don't know why you feel that the 3V/4V cars don't run well in NA applications. I've recently seen a bolt-on, stalled, DR, exhaust, geared 3V make an 11.97 pass........that's on stock cams. I'm not sure if thats the going average for an auto S197 with those mods.......but it sure surprised me.

i beg to differ on that. i have a customer with a 70 pantera with a build 4.6 4v in it. all n/a and puts 485hp

but at the same time ive seen just a bolt on 4v only puttin down about 290ish.

if i had to choose between a 7 liter pushrod 2v or a 4.6 dohc 4v as a starting point? id obviously choose the 7 liter.

if OHC was such a better design, top fuel cars would be using it.

Honestly, to me, any blown v8 not making more than 500rwhp is weaksauce....if you're gonna spend the 4-5k on the setup, might as well make over 500rwhp.

I've never seen of a s197 run that, it's very impressive. But I'd imagine the car is like the bolton LS1's that go 10's with a stock motor, a gutted race car in other words.

well really the 2v ohc are morely the engines that don't respond well at all in N/A form. 3v or 4v engines respond alot better to mods N/A and they can make quite a bit of power N/A, you can reach 400+rwhp if you have a very good setup on a 4v i know that, but it's going to cost a very high price of money, especially with a set of cams being like $1200 alone.
