there are a handful of "monaro's" around the detroit area...but i would wager that they are just not holderns or vauxhalls...just pontiacs with body kits and badges. i have, however, seen one of the newer holden "elcaminos"...i cant recall what its call though...its the "truck" that broke the record for the fastest street truck.

There's a guy around here who has put Monaro styling cues on his GTO. I believe the only difference is that the GTO has to have a revised fuel tank for US safety standards.
The GTO has either an LS1 or LS2, depending on the year. Just about anything could have been done to the one you ran, they're very versatile.

You are exactly right about the gas tank...that is why no Monaro was imported to the US. Pontiac did not make anything...Holden made both cars in Australia. Holden is owned by GM. GM shipped the engines (LS1 or LS2) to Austalia and it was put in the car.

It is likely it was aPontiac GTO that the owner orderedand changed out the bumpers, grills etc. The Pontiac GTO is the Holden Manaro.Holden manufactured the Pontiac GTO butmoved the gas tank and added the Pontiac grill, bumpers and badges. Afew GTO owners have beenconverting the stylingback to the Holden Manaro.
I would say a majority of GTO owners are starting to mod them.It seems a lot aregoing FI on them as well. Itis very likely the GTO you ran was modded in some fashion maybe even with FI.TheGTO takes well to FI. As an example I have a112 magnacharger with supporting mods on mine making 495 RWHP and 478 RWTQ on aMustang Dyno. I am at the bottom end of the GTOs' running FI. The GTOs' now with the new 122 Magnacharger are getting over 500 RWHP without much effort. the Procharger group is consistantly getting over 500 RWHP some over 600 RWHP. The APS twin turbos for the GTO start you out at around 600 RWHP. I would imagine an engine rebuild will be in order with all forged internals before finding the limits of the APS system.
