I hate to sound stupid, but in the samebreath im a self-acclaimed moron........or just someone that doesnt know everything, depends who you ask........this 2nd gear burnout...is this what im thinking, just a "stick it in 2nd gear and dump the clutch" ? Ive just never had anything with enough power/gear to pull this off, and although ive been around plenty of stangs/musclecars/track&street racing, ive never heard of this, just looking for a little more insight, please excuse my ignorance

^^^ lol today I went down a back road to practice launching a little bit (kind of pointless considering the track surface is different plus I had 32 psi in the DRs as opposed to 15 or so at the track, but what the hell I didn't want to go straight home from work you know?), so I put my car in second gear, revved it up and popped it, and it stalled. Again, and it stalled. Maybe you're supposed to be in the water box, or start in first and quickly shift to second? IDK...

No need to step up to the bmr's unless the steeda's are making noise, i went through 2 sets of their bushings. With the Mickey Thompsons ET street radials I would set the psi to around 25 or so and when i did a burnout i have an auto so cant help you on that, but i did it in 2nd to have more wheelspeed. Im an auto with a stock converter so my best 60ft are around 1.8, my buddy with a manual always spun with his 315 nittos, but when he switched over to the 275 mt et street radial he averaged 1.6- 1.7.

^^^ damn you broke steeda bushings with DRs, how much approx rwhp and how many runs did a set of bushings last you? what kind of noise gives it away that they're fubar? Thanks...

the 2nd gear burn out lets you get higher MPH speeds to get more heat in the tires... but it is hard on the clutch.... check out this thread...

^^^ yeah I read that. Looks like it isn't necessary with tall gears (some can hit 50mph in first), and may be risky without a line lock (tires get sticky after the water's gone and the car might go flying I guess?) I've already got a replacementclutch and flywheel pkg picked out (lol), so I'm not worried about that. I might play around with a second gear burnout...I am DEMANDING a 1.7x or better from this car...

with your gearing you should be fine with a 2nd gear burnout..and i dont think its any harder on the clutch than doing it in first if you get it down right.

what clutch you thinking about... i have a spec stage2+ just sitting around and i can make you a nice offer on it

^^^ this one:

might as well do the clutch and flywheel combo I guess? It's the only combo I've found but brent knows his sh*t so that's the way I'm leaning...but I'm not buying until the factory setup starts to fail on me...thanks though...

I have a 1969 big block camaro with a old clutchless dougnash and i just throw it in 3rd gear and dump the clutch with line lock on.I run mickeythompson ET drag slicks on it.I was running 13psi in them.It can get a little hairy at the big end though due to lack of air pressure.

brent's a solid guy to buy from.

well i just have it sitting around, its a spec stage 2+ with lightweight pressure plate option like $600+ new...i can let it go for far less. a shop installed it and uninstalled it the same day because they didnt know how to read instructions, never driven on...bought a centerforce dual friction to replaceit so they could understand those instructions better (needless to say that was my last dealing with them)and it held up ok but i am far beyond the horsepower for that clutch now...had a zoom for short period but moving to a spec stage 3+ now...hopefully this will hold for a while...i really dont want to go to a twin disc set-up

well if you decide to change and i still have the clutch let me know it will save you a few hundred bucks, you can just buy the flywheel seperately.

at your horsepower the clutch should last a little while unless you completely abuse it
