they may be better off the line, but what im saying is if the awd guy cant launch it properly, then its anybodys race.....i dont understand why when everyone hears "awd" right away they say from a dig you'd lose....they dont even give the other guy a chance.....its just not true

Ok then, how about this... Stock GT vs. Stock STI, both are great drivers and know how to launch their car. Both are also on street tires. Now, who's likely going to get out of the hole quicker?
how about on the street that rarely ever happens
You missed my point. With all things being equal ie. stock / great drivers / street tires, the AWD will own the GT, plain and simple.

And to your point about "how on the street that rarely happens", I still think odds should favor the awd because of it's capabilty. This doesn't mean it will win, but it sure has a better chance of winning with a good driver (at least out of the hole).

4500rpm in an EVO on the street = RWD car rapage unless you have heated DRs and some good traction... granted thats only the first few hundred feet and you can make it back up if you have the hp but they have an advantage.

You should always assume both drivers can drive.... If we are taken into effect that in reality most people can't drive then your Cobra would still lose vs an AWD evo because they run mid 14s poorly driven and a poorly driven Evo should still click off a high 13. [8D]

Don't you have to launch at like 5,000 RPM's to actaully have a "good" launch for an AWD car?
Yes. My two-step is set at 5500. On all-season street tires, I pull consistent low 1.7's at the track. It's really not that difficult to do. I just can't figure out why there are so many folksthat can't launch their awd car. It's not rocket science.

I understand your point and partially agree. There's always a chance the awd driver can't launch, but there's also a chance the GT will spin the tires and not get traction. You just never know what's going to happen on the street (point taken). But, if we knew both drivers were good, this is a sure sign the awd will get out of the hole quicker.

I have 20's and I raped a wrx model by buses I have auto also.

Ive never raced a STI but the WRX are SLOWWWW

AWD are better off the line! it's a fact. Given both have good drivers. Even with a novice-level driver it's still pretty hard for him to launch that bad that he'll lose from a GT with your mods.

STI's are get low 13's stock! with his lil mods he should be in the high 12's. i've personally dragged against an older WRX (not Sti) but it had quite a few mods, he beat me by 3 cars. (My car is slower than a stock GT because of my 20" wheels but i still had a pretty good launch)

Alot of WRX owners i know personally open their boost a little before racing so watch out!

Isn't it funny that it's assumed that people can't launch an AWD car, yet everyone knows how to launch a RWD V8 without spinning the crap out of the tires?

i would say theres just as much of a chance of a rwd blowing the tires away as there is someone not being able to launch an awd. the real question is, what if both drivers are equally $hitty?? what if the gt lights up the night with its tires and the awd isn't launched properly?? everyone talks about "drivers race", but then wouldnt it be the cars race??
