Racing Help Please
Drag raced for the first time last night and I need some help. I raced on a 1/8 mile track running a protree light. I drive an 03 GT convt. with 75mm throttle body and upper intake, C&L true flow intake pipe with 85mm MAF housing and K&N air filter, diablo sport tuner, steeda tri-ax shifter, SPLLoud Mouth 2and 275/40ZR17 in back. My best time out of 4 runs was 9.559 but the others were 9.7 range. Traction was definatly an issue and my 60 foot time prove that. No traction at all in 1st and always broke lose in 2nd. I plan on racing again next month. Any help and advice would be appreciated.
I assume the tires at the back are street tires. well, you can leave the line at idle or slip the clutch. that should help to get rid of braking the tires loose. also drop tire pressure. if you are running like 35-40psi, i am not surprised that you are burning them.
you can simply get Drag Radials and don't worry about traction.

I can tell you already your 60's suck. Purchase some drag radials and work your launching technique. To high and you may spin, to low and you will bog. You have to find your sweet spot. There is definately more e.t to be had by improving those 60' times.
