Default drag radial problem

Hey guys. Last week I went to my local 1/8 mile track in Denton, Tx. I was on street tires and managed a best of 8.90. Temp was in the 90's with 80% humidity(rained 20 min after I got there). My 60 ft. times were pretty bad. So, this last week I bought Nitto 555r drag radials hoping to cut my 60fts to a 1.9. To say the least, my 60ft times were worse and my best 1/8 was a 8.86. I tried everything to heat these tires up; 10+sec burnouts, lowered tire psi from 20, 17, 15. The track wasn't prepped the best, and humidity was still pretty high. Most of the cars out there were running slightly lower times than I thought. I actually had one of the fastest street cars out there. What can I do to get these tires to hook. I feel as if I wasted 330$. Thanks

Last week(stock tires) This week(Nitto drs)
reaction..... .2641 reaction..... .4613
60 ft..... 2.2056 60ft..... 2.2070
330ft..... 5.8743 330ft..... 5.8418
1/8..... 8.9090@81.26 1/8.....8.8618@81.54

My best 60ft with the Nittos was a 2.1213 and my avervage was a 2.20. Any help as to how I can lower my 60ft times would be greatlyappreciated. Also, I was able to finally beat an 02Transam, 07 GT, modded Neon SRT, and an 00 Z28. I made several runs, so if you need to see any more times let me know.

With the drag radials I deffinetly was spinning, and pretty bad too. My dad videotaped a few runs and it the tires were sqealing. The car never bogged and my trap speed was always above 81mph. I never did the burnout in 2nd gear. I just left the auto in D.Thanks again for your help.

Nittos suck at the track. Good on the street but suck at the track. A friend of mine had some and the best thing for you to do is let the pressure down to 9 lbs and do a John Force burnout. M/T drag radials FTW.

I could of told you Nitto D/R are terrible. Buy a set of mickeys and you will be good.

Dont do too long of a burnout, they arent slicks. Drop the pressure around 10 psi and try that. When these are done get some Mickeys.

Hell yea! Hoosiers work just as good at the track but not as well on the street or in the rain.

A coupla guys in my local F-body club have cut 1.6 quick times with the Nittos, so they must be capable of getting sticky.
Dropping the pressure really low with radials will cause them to cup; no contact patch in the middle, just at the edges.
I just bought a pair of these and I'm also hoping for 1.9, I'll try them the first chance I get but I think my local track is closed this week.

ok, first thing you guys need to realize, is there is alot more to tracion than just the tires, if you want more traction, buy a set of caltracks,

i know of a guy who put a set on his mild dakota, first launch at the strip he blew out his first gear, after fixing that, his second try he blew his rear end

caltracks will greatly increase your traction with no adverse affects

Do NOT try second gear burnouts.

The only way to hook with those Nittos (I've had them..they make an awesome STREET tire) is to spin them for days in the box before staging. Go to a real DR pronto, and keep the Nittos for the drives to and from work.
