For thoseof you who don't know, Viper forumand Corvette forumowners have a seriousdislike for eachother. Viper alley isone of if not the premier Viper site on the net. They alsohave a bunch of members who routinely cross the line with insults towards Corvette owners;Corvette forum owners to be exact. Since 1993 the Viper dominated Corvette in the performance category up until 2006. The release of the Z06 changed things a bit and fueled a huge animosityin the Viper world. Guys were not use to being second best. With the introduction of the 2008 Viper, many Viper fans have already given this car praise and distinguished it the new "king of the hill" before road tests were even conducted. Well Car and driver did test the car against a 2007 Z06. Corvette owners were upset because the 2008 Z06 has a new transmission and steering column. So a 2008 Viper vs 2008 Z06 test is in order. But any way here are the results...


Viper:
0-60: 3.5
1/4: 11.6@126 Tires- 345Y Michelin pilot sports

Z06:
0-60: 3.7
1/4: 11.7@125 Tires - 325Y Goodyear run flats.

Overall winner: Z06


Here is where things become interesting...Motor trend was able to pull a 3.5 0-60 and a 11.5 1/4 mile @ 127 in the 06 Z06. Now I'm not going to say that the Z06 is truly faster because on paper the Viper should kill it but what gives? 600hp 8.4Lof displacement and still in the mid 11s? I hope we get some better tests out of this Viper or some guys are going to be pissed! Viper godJohn Hennessey (yes the developer of the 1000hp Hennessey Viper)even called Corvette forums guys nut swingers. They were also quoted callingCorvetteGod Ranger a fraud.Ranger registered and defended himself well, in a non confrontational way.

okay, what are the vipers going to do when the z06 owner finds a cai and maf sensor? or maybe even headers and an x? my grandpa had me install his K&N full intake and a granetelli air sensor on his C5, then hypertech tune it. he has 380whp now. coming from 345/345 before. EF TEH VIPORZ!

Nice results...I am curious to see what happens over the next year...we already know the Z06 has been to 10s with DRs and low low 11s bone stock.. it will be interesting to see what happens when these things hit the tracks in better than average conditions.

Looks like the Z06 lead is because...

A) fibbing about actual power output (trust me I knew this before now)

B) lighter than the competition

Any dyno results on the new Viper?

You said winner = Z06, but you also said the Viper ran a faster quarter mile time according to that comparison from that mag...sarcasm?

Car and driver said the overall winner was theZ06 not me. The Viper did run a faster 1/4 but I guess it lost in every other category (Interior, ride comfort etc..)

I've never really liked the Vipers myself. They have power yeah, and are a nice symbol of the beefy American Muscle car, but they have always been, I dunno, a bit overdone for my tastes? I like the fact that the Z06 doesn't look as flamboyant and is just as quick with less engine. Vipers are quick though, but never really been my cup of tea. It's nice to see a modern horsepower war going on though, forces the manufacturers to use those massige R&D capabilities they have to actually start scratching performance out of their engines.

I think the main arguement is, who is faster stock?We all know that amodded car can beat a stock car. Maybe C &D could do a test ofthe two cars with the same mods.
