first vette kill
With those mods an S197 traps what?? 104~105 ... A stock M6 C5 traps 108~109mph and the autos are 107~108... (strong ones obviously)... it could happen with an early 97~98 that was a slow runner.. there is no way you would start off from behind and just catch right up though... especially when a weak C5 Auto should trap a least 105mph...
Who knows..
Who knows..
Sadly it is going to take forced induction to beat a vette, especially from a roll, which is why I ordered a whipple. Of course I've never raced a corvette besidesac3one, but i'll be looking for them now.
I would say that since you are comparing a brick to a feather more or less, with the feather having more power, that is obvious. You are putting out good power, I would say if it were from a dig, you might have a shot if you are a good driver, and he had some traction problems. I think you are maybe misconstruing the fact that the vette may have shut down after he knew you were not a challenge.
the c5 weights 3200 pounds(if it was astick)and my car weights 3500, thats not a brick to feather. ok so now he has 300 pounds on me. maby he did let off. but from go he never had more then half a car on me
if you think about it, 300 lbs. is 3 tenths of a second. 100 lbs. is a tenth of a second. I remeber hearing from JD1969 that 1 tenth of a second is a car or something like that. That means about 3 cars. They are very lightweight compared to mustangs. Plus, mustangs weight about 3500 w/o driver. C5's weight about 3100 lbs. the convertibles weight about 3200 lbs. plus driver, so depending on drivers, he could have more then 300 lbs on you, not to mention 20-30 more hp at the wheels.
I don't think it would have been a walk in the park for the vette...but if optimal conditions met (right gear, traction, blah blah) you should have either held your own (stayed close) or got walked... If you were behind you wouldn't be able to make up for it.
Of course conditions are not always right...this morning I was passing behind a buddy of mine and started to creep up on his 357rwhp Auto with my bone stock M6... sadly it was obvious from the sound of his car he didn't downshift at all when he went WOT.....

Not for nothing but that oldC5, even in Auto is almost a full sec. quicker then your carin the quarter. Also, the C5out powers you at every RPM, especially on the highway. Your listed mod's will help, but the C5 is going to still pull the GT.
