first drag tonight!
I'm going down to Atlanta Dragway tongiht for my first drag race. Will be in a 91 GT 5 speed. It's pretty stock, not set up for the strip. Any tips on launching? thanks
[ul][*]On street tires, avoid the waterbox and only do a quick spin to clean off your tires.[*]Remove extra weight from the car.[*]Air up your front tires to 40psi, but don't drop your rear street tires below 22psi (+/-).[*]With a 5.0, I'd bring your rpm's up to 2500and do a quick lift of the clutch. If you spin, lower your rpm's next time. If you bog (which I doubt), then raise your rpms's.[*]Don't worry about your reaction time. Watch your rpm's and feathering your clutch as needed - that's more important than leaving quickly. Remember, the timer doesn't start until the car moves.[*]Turn off your AC (it drips water on the track).[*]Most tracks require you to wear long pants.[*]Most of all - HAVE FUN![/ul]
Well i got a 14.9 for my best run. It was muggy as hell so not ideal conditions for a race. But i got my wheelspin under control, ended up launching really low. I got 225s out back so not much meat. Track really wasn't too sticky either. It was pretty fun. Raced my friend in his saturn, spun all through 1st and still beat him by half a second on my first run.

Unless you have good race type rear suspension,(UCA AND LCA,Shocks, springs for drag) leave the weight in the trunk....
anything over the rear axle will aid in traction on the strip...not to mention taking out the spare and jack is not gonnna get you that extra tenth anyways...
...IMO.
100 pounds =1 tenth
