289 VS stock impreza
This guy at my schools been talking crap about old muscle cars and how they're slow because they're old. He drives a bone stock 04 subaru impreza wrx.
My '66 coupe is pretty well suited with it's 289. Bored .030 over, headers, mild cam, holley 4bbl, 3spd automatic/shift kit
I'm not 100% sure what the 04 subaru ricers come with, but the 03's have about 120 ci engines..stock turbo's, they weigh about 3000 lbs and are 4 cylinders, awd as well... I'm assuming the 04s are similar.
Do I stand a chance against his foreign eggroll, or would I blow him away?...or are we evenly matched?

You're not gonna be doing jack for performance unless you either REALLY build it up, or get some decent heads. Stock 60's era heads aren't gonna make much power. The cam and headers will help some, but remember than anything stock on that engine is 40 year old technology
Yeah I'm just partly ignorant, it may even have new heads, I know I got a ton of stock parts with the car when I bought it...Old carb, hood, torque converter, coil, heads...but I'm not sure if the heads on it now are a little more modern...or still old school.
I'm guessing modern because the heads I got in a box look perfectly fine...
Whoever owned the car before me put some work into it, I'm just not good enough with cars YET to remember everything they told me.

Run it at the track to see what it does, ultimately how fast the car goes is what matters, and not the parts you have, otherwise you're just bench racing. But stock Ford small blocks for the most part aren't anything spectacular. With some work and the right parts they can be made quite fast though, but that's true of any car. Just don't go picking races with 4 cylinders you might lose to, you might get embarassed [&:]You could always pull a valve cover and look for casting marks to see what heads you have, or look for marks on the outside
I'll check 'em out sometime and see what I can find.
I'm only 15 I have to learn these things [8D]
Losing to a WRX doesn't mean I'm slow as ****, does it? just that I can't keep up with 'em?
I'm asking no brainer questions to you guys now...but wait...one day I'll be famous for something to do with mustangs [sm=smiley2.gif]

I think there are WRX's that are naturally aspirated, losing to one of those would be kinda sad I think. Losing to an STi isn't too shameful, they're pretty quick as they come, especially for only having 4 cylinders

Put those heads and their intake on your engine with a nice custom cam and some good internalsand you'll be quicker than most cars you run, then put some spray on it for when you find a faster car
