DRIFTING...........
I had a wonderful link a while back of a camaro mornon that liked to drift. He lost it and hit a house, the passengers brains was smeared on the sideing of the house.
DRIFTING IS STUPID AND CAN KILL YOU AND MANY OTHER PEOPLE FOR ABSOLUTLY NO REASON. just don't do it. If you like it that much join the world rally serise

Does anybody else think MUSTANG_GT has no mustang?
It seems like is an import guy that's into drifting, trying to get someone to say the drift their mustang as goos as thos imports?
If I'm wrong sorry MUSTANG_GT.

Hmm well I guess it must be possible to drift these front heavy cars. In the US drifting series, the winner drove a Viper, really pissed off all the ricers. There was also a GTO. But yeah I dont think the Mustang is meant to drift. good luck to you!
very true. tarzan yamada drove the viper. that is far different from a mustang. rhys millen in the GTO didnt fair too well. the viper won for the show aspect of drifting. it was not the best car. it had the wow factor behind it.
Yeah drifting is more about the performance. Samuel Hubinette is insane, he like hangs his body out of the car while hes sliding around =P ITs possible but yeah you're right, a smaller lighter car is easier to drift
why not a mustang, torquey v8, live axle rear end, easily modded. i spent two years in oki as a marine and i picked up drifitn when i was there, i had a 92 twin turbo fd, a single turbo fc and a 180sx that was converted to a sil80. Unlike the turbo cars where you need rpms to keep the turbo spooled the n/a car will have a linear power band that will be more easily modulated. The AE86 is a perfect example. Plus with a lighter rear end it will make it easier to swing around. Go for it man. Get a good suspension, weld the rear diff, a stronger clutch and you'll have a car thats easily able to hang the rear end out
If you put in an aluminum block, you can cut down some weight. Anyone, want to give me $3k? LOL, JK. Drifting is scary, my GT went TOO sideways on the correction, jumped a curb, and hit a small tree. I would suggest drifting at a safe parking lot with no obstacles.
I think a mustang would be a great drifter.. There are 2 '05 Mustangs in the FormulaD (American drifting series) this year, one driven by Vaughn Gitten Jr. and one by the youngest professional drifter Ken Gushi. Their cars are specifically built for drifting but that does not mean that you cannot drift your Mustangs. If you can handle being mocked by a number of people then I think a Mustang can be a good and different drift automobile.
Setup: As suggested tighten up the rear end with some sway bars, get a good suspension which lowers the center of gravity a little bit and hopefully has a closer lb/in spring rate than stock ratings (closer front to rear). I do not know the factory spring rates, but lets assume stock is 320f/230r a good spring rate for an oversteer setup that is controllable would be more like 360f/310r with some good matching shocks. The power curve of the 4.6 is very good for drifting, you would not NEED any power adders to drift one. If you wanted to add some power it wouldn't hurt but don't go too far. JR is putting a Vortech supercharger on his '05 but he himself says he is going to try to limit the power output to about 500flywheel because any more would be a waste, a hassle, and make it less dependable. An LSD is quite a good option for drifting, you do not want a 1way LSD though that would suffice, a better rear end would be a 1.5way or a 2way LSD for drifting. Also a strong clutch would be a good mod.
To learn drifting: Practice in open parking lots for a while. The key is to have complete control of the car beyond the edge of grip. There are many techniques you can practice and learn. Power-over, feint, trail braking, e-brake, dirtdrop, clutch kick, and more. It is best to learn as many of these techniques and use them in conjunction with one another. The entire point to drifting is not to be sideways as long as possible; it is to have control, maintain a line, flair (smoke/angle), maintain speed, and do it all sideways.
Good Luck.
96SilverLT1: You are just as likely to kill someone losing control while drag racing or just generally driving fast as you are drifting. It is motorsports, lives are at risk always. That is the thrill of the sport. There is a time and place for everything, and the track is the place for these events. Drag racing on public streets is dangerous. Road racing your friend through backroads is dangerous. Drifting the touge is dangerous. There is as much of a point going in a straight line as fast as you can as there is going around bends as fast as you can, and just as much point to going sideways around bends as stylish as you can. If you are suggesting that drifters are not in control of their cars I dare you to suggest it; understand the point of drifting and what it takes to drift properly before you assume that there is less control of a well drifted vehicle than there is of a drag vehicle. Also the skills of maintaining control traction (one of the (if not the) most important aspect of drag racing) in a forward direction is just as important to a drifter, that is afterall what determines the direction they are traveling in at some point. Also the Honda driver Papadakis (sp?), a well known professional drag racer has tried drifting and shows interest in drifting and recognizes it as a very difficult skill to learn.

sure. so just any one can deside that they want to drift and just automaticly be great at it and never lose control. we are not talking about pros here. We are talking about some kid on a message forum thats probably not even been driving a car for 5 years let alone has the kind of car control to push a car to it's limits.
Like I said, if you want to drift join the world rally serise. Otherwise it's pointless and kills people.
Same thing can be said for drag racing. I go to the track. I don't street race. It can be dangerous and it really has no bearing on what your car can do anyway. I might play a little with someone on the street but I'm not going to go all out. It's just as pointless

same goes for drifting... take it to the track where it belongs, there are sanctioned drift events almost everywhere. In parking lots, at race tracks. I do not promote doing it on the street any more than I promote drag racing on the streets. It shouldn't be done, it is not safe. Controlled environments only in my opinion. If thats what you're trying to say then say it. Rallie Series or whatever you are speaking of is not the only place for drifting.
