me vs evo!
so my friend and i are cruisin down the highway and we see a evo9 on the other side of the road. we turned around real quick and found him at a light. after the light went green we caught up to him and threw him a quick rev. a few miles up we were sitting at another light next to him and asked what he had some. he said just a catback, and a hks bov. i told him i had full bolt ons. so we take off from the light and both nail it at about 30mph. i had my nitrous on but i have no bottle heater and my pressure was probly at about 600psi haha plus my bottle is gettin rather low. im guessing the nitrous only gave me about a 50 shot at that point cause the evo was dead even with me all the way to about 120! i was thinking to myself"no way that thing is stock, i have walked stis off the juice" we pulled into a mcdonalds and i told him no way that thing was stock. he poped the hood and i couldnt find a damn thing. no intake no nothin. we talked for a while he never said anything about any mods, but did say he was pushin 21lbs of boost stock.....hmmm....is that right for a stock evo?
Just did a little research, here's what I found:
From SCC web:
"The other significant change is to the turbocharger. Mitsubishi retains the twin-scroll design used on previous EVOs but has increased the compressor cover diffuser diameter to further improve boost response. Mitsu claims this change nets a five-percent improvement in boost response over the entire rev range. For those of you who speak Mitsubishi, the new turbo is a TD05HR-16G6C-10.5T. The EVO IX's ECU allows it to pump 20.1 psi of boost at 3500 rpm and 16 psi at redline."
Sounds like he wasn't far off, although he was embellishing a little bit.

wow. i was so suprised that this thing stayed right next to me i have raced a few stis N/A and pulled a car on them but with the evo i was sprayin! i like thoes cars even more now haha
There was one at the track the other night running 11.8s supposedly on a stock turbo. He had a laptop computer hooked up to it after every race, so it was tuned the way he wanted. Another guy out there was saying it doesn't take anything more than a tune to get them into the mid-12s. I like EVOs, nothing but respect for them.
