If you havent updated it because you arent at 600rwhp, than dont say that you are.

Most of the GTO's I gun into are modded heavily in the motor but they are automatic cars with stock tranny.. Alot of hp's are lost through that horrible drivetrain imo
GM overdrive transmissions are surprisingly efficient.

And I'd have to do something to that fragile rear so I could launch it hard .
I know where you can get a ford 8.8 for cheap. I've seen a couple of GTO owners swap to a solid rear axle.
I had a 9 inch in a Camaro I used to own.

So why are the one's I run into so slow for what they are? Do they attract bad drivers?

I wouldn't say they attract bad drivers, but that it's very tricky getting a 400HP/400TQ 3800lb car with IRSand 245/45 tires to launch without smoking the tires. All I can say is go drive one, and then get back in your Mustang and tell me they're not quick for what they are. They don't need to be reved to make power, GTOs have a tonof low-end power and don't fall on their face anywhere in the RPM. Trust me, if you can get it to hook, the GTO will embarass a new edge or older, and put a few cars on an 05+ stang (Considering everyone is Stock and can drive). I have had both (2001 GT-2004 GTO) and now have a Mach. The GT had nothing on the GTO, even with gears. The Mach can hang with an 06 GTO now that I did some work to it, but when it was stock, it would fall behind...any way, I know everyone can say they beat a GTO or didn't get beat by much, but trust me, when the cars are compared legitamately on a track with seasoned drivers (not a 17 year old that has had it for 2 weeks), the GTO is way faster than any GT.

Well the guy actually showed up today to race me. The gto was an 06 completely stock. We made four passes. The first pass he lit his tires up threw 2 gears and and i put so much ground between us that he just stopped and opted for another run. Second pass he still spun but not near as bad, but bad enough for me to put about 6 car lenghts between us before i got into third, but the next thing i know he is at my back bumper and i only beat him by half a car length. third run he boggs down horribly(don't really know how though) but catches me and passes me by a car length. Last run he spins horribly and i take him by a car length. So i got two out of three on him(he claims the first run doesnt count, a load of horsehit in my opinion). But had we gone from a roll he wouldve smoked me easily, and i mean easily. Just goes to show how much the driver has to do with racing.

By the way, can anybody explain to me how he manage to bog down with street tires while pushing so much power??

LS2 GTO - 12.9-13.1 with a good driver
LS1 GTO - 13.5-13.7 with a good driver
S197 - 13.4-13.6 with a good driver
99-04 GT - 13.9-14.1 with a good driver
03-04 Mach 1 - 13.1-13.3 witha good driver

The LS2 GTO will beat all GT Mustangs, but it would come down to the driver between an LS2 GTO and a Mach 1 and the Mach 1 will beat an LS1 GTO 9 times out of 10. The LS1 GTO and S197 would be a drivers race for sure, with the edge to the S197.

im curious that u said that the gt has the edge over the ls1 gto, there have been gto doing 14.3 in the 1\4 mile and the ls1 gto will take the gto at top end. assumming not all races are 1\4 mile exaclty i really dont see a gt taking a gto at highers speeds.
