See Sig,

For comparison sake;
LT1 stock went 14.1 @ 97mph on a 2.1 60ft
LS1 stock went 13.1 @ 108mph on a 2.1 60ft

$8k-$10k will easily be able to buy a halfway decent LS1 Camaro.Depending on if it's a 6-speed or an auto, expect to run 13.0-13.5 @ 104-108 bone stock (and most used ones are not stock anymore so expect to be a tad faster). And I can assure you, they respond very well to modifications. I've just scratched the surface on mine, read my sig.
Read the "LS1" sticky on this forum (link is in mysig)to get all the basic performance info you need. And here are a few ads from my area to help you expect what to get for the money (4th one is a friend of mine). These cars are getting CHEAP.

For 99-04 Mustang info, there is plenty of that here and even a special forum.

If you can use your head and curb any testosterone fueled impluses, you could be able to keep out of trouble with a V8. Your price range could get you a LS1 ora nice 99/04.What do you think about a 96/98 Cobra? I have seen the Cobras on AutoTrader for ~$7500. Personally I am a big fan of the SN95 body style(drhoward knows what I mean[8D]), and a stock Cobra would be about the same as a modded 99/04 GT performance wise.

Edit - If you get a LS1 go with a WS6 Trans-Am w/ 6spd. Black, Dark Blue orPewter. Black being the best color[8D].

Yep, I would say find a nice LS1 Camaro, they were made from 98-02. The LS1 was put in the Z28 & the SS, exsact same motor. If all you care about is the performence then it doesnt matter weather you get a Z28 or SS, but the SS come with a few extra treats like a hood scoop & a nicer spoiler.

If you like the look of the mustang better you could get a 99-04 GT, but realize that the LS1 is about a full second faster. Its all about what you like though.

Good luck with your search.

I agree with what those guys are saying. An LS1 Camaro is gunna be the quickest of the bunch. 99-04 Mustang GT is a very nice vehicle, but will need some modification to get up to par with the Camaro. Both can be opened up quite a bit and will have no problem handling your average Honda.

Now this is what I think:

I'll also recommend something that will probably get me shot here. For your first car, get something that's gunna have some power under it's wheels but won't kill you on insurance. My suggestion:1998 Lincoln Mark VIII. You'll have the N/A 32v DOHC V8 (almost the same as the Cobra) under the hood, all the luxury you could dream of on the inside, and hell they're just pimp rides.

LS1 = fastest
New Edge GT = slower, but better looking
Boosted Civic = potential to be fast, better mileage, cheaper insurance

The LS1 will get you the best bang for the buck performance wise. New Edge, they area dime a dozen, see them all over the place. Boosted Civic would be different, but in the end, it is still a Civic.[8D]

I guess my buddy is just a terrible driver, LOL. He has an 01 Camaro with the good ole LS1, and we got smoked at 3 straight redlights by an 03 GT with no supercharger or spray.
