MT drag radials will they expand?
I was thinking about last season, and about the sub spectacular times I got on my MT ET streets. The day was much hotter than previous runs, but my MPH was really way off. Even with a good cooldown and after the sun went down I was not seeing the MPH I did before.
I ran an identical time and 2-3 less MPH with the MTs than I did with the nittos, but with a 1.8 instead of 1.9 60' time.so heres the question:
Is it possible the mickeys are expanding, aka getting taller, at the top of the track? I know slicks do this, but do the MT drag radials? I am running a 275/50/R15 on a fairly small 15 inchwheel (stock v6 mustang wheel).
If this is the case, i was thinking I should swap out from the 3.73 to 3.90 gear? I probably won't see more power this year (not much more) but I am planning on getting the rearend rebuilt with 31 splines, and frankly I could use a bit more gear with my setup.if I am going to swap nowis the time, as everything will already be apart. However, i don't want to run out of gear at the top of the track either, and its already pretty close.
Also, anyone have any idea what a car with a 1:1 4th gear, 3.90 rear gear, and either a 275/50/R15 OR 315/35/R17 should tach at 6000 RPM?

With 315/35/R17 113.4 in 4th.
I used this
It might not be 100% accurate but it should give you a good idea.

P.S. I normally use another tool but I'm not home right now (at gf's house). If you want, I can post the link. The one I use is easier and more precise in my opinion, however, this tool should be pretty accurate too.
Happy Xmas btw.

Radials are not supposed to expand. With a wider tire like a 315 the center will blug out a very small amount but there not going to grow like a slick.

My money is just on the weather. I lose 4 mph from the coldest to hottest days I see.
Just for your info I also usually lose a little trap with a better 60'
I was told less time for the car to accelerate. Seems weird....
I don't think it has alot to do with your DRs. Yes a better 60' will USUALLY lower your trap but hot temperatures are probably the culprit. Summer time racing, I usually trap less than I do in the spring/summer. Things to avoid this is giving your car a substantial cool down period with the hood open, put a portable fan in front or on top of the motor to blow through and cool the entire engine bay.
Our cars have knocksensors and exhaust gas temp sensors whichthat will pull timing if they detect detonation.
I have noticed if I wait 30-40 minutes between passes, my runs become more consistant. I have also noticed that when the Sun the goes down in the summer time and everything cools down a bit, my trap and ET will be better.
I watched a bracket racer at Sac raceway logging everything in a small book in the cab of his ride. All of his last pass information and all the weather and track conditions. He would change his ET based on the information and was very successful. He was driving a newer F150, so it wasn't anything real fast.

How is there that much difference between a 3.90 and a 3.73? I was really hoping to see at least 118 or so mph.
I think I shift out of 4th on the street at around 119-120 MPH with the 3.73 gear. If I can only go 113.50 with the mickeys I can't use the 3.90... that sucks.
Once you get the rear built, you could always go with a 27 or 28 in tire if you have problems running out of gear. I will be racing on 27x10.50x15's this year. And with the 4.10's I hope to trap 100-102 (in the 1/8) still in 3rd gear at ~6800.
