Top end....where to do it?
OK, there are some obvious places like the salt flats and long runways like one of our members had the luck to use, but, are there any other legal places to see what a car will do? Yes, I have done it with several cars on flat two lanes with nothing but wheat fields on either side, but, the danger factor and of course the jail time factor make that more and more unpleasant as I get older [8D] Even a bunny rabbit at 150+ will ruin your day/life.
Great question.
You can do it anywhere, just make sure you have a backup plan to escape to Mexico in case you 'almost' get caught.[:@]
silly **** aside, I wonder the same thing.

LOL.....been there done that when I was much younger.....there's not many more unpleasant things than the sound of your radar detector going off from instant-on radar when you are doing150 [&:]
I've never done it in my Z06 - I just wouldn't feel comfortable. The few times I've done high speed runs I've relied on two things.
1. My top notch radar detector (Valantine One)
2. My field of vision.
I like a spot on the highway where I can see a parked cop. If he is doing "instant on" radar (or laser), there isn't a detector in the world that is going to save my ***. That is why I wouldn't even consider doing it while it is dark out.

while it is not a good idea to do this on the open road, i know someone who has done so by having someone "run gun". the first vehicle will go along a long stretch of road where there is no access for other vehicles, generally very early in the morning on the weekend. the first car runs through the area, and immeadiately dials the other drivers number. but like i said, it should never be done in practice, without the permission and supervision of your local authorities.
ive known of a few airstrips that allowed screwing around at car shows, but im guessing that since that kid turned himself and four of his buddies into a paste in the bmw, we will probably see less of that.

Hey, if you want a good radar, that is awesome for high speeds. Beltronics STi Driver. My RX65 Pro, detects over 6,000 FT in advance. The new STi is more like 8-9K ft. (Valentin Ones are good, but there is a new Sherriff in town.) I've used them before, and have experience with those. User preference though....No biggy!
As far as legally going that fast. Go to a autocross track, and get the car in a straight line. Or, pull a Mr. Rogers and rent an AFB for a day.

Here's my spot. Still not safe, but at least nobody else is in danger.
