FOCUS ZX3
I dont really think you needed to post this in 2 different sections, but I'll respond again. Its the 2 door hatchback Focus. They are ok cars, and if it has the 2.3 its even better. I would have kept the Stang though.
The 2003 ZX3 is the 3 door hatchback and that year comes with the 2.3. I had the 2003 ZX4 and the 2.3 is pretty good - much better than the 2006 I have now with the 2.0. Neither one is as quick as my Mustang, but good for daily commuting.
I think that the 2003 ZX series has some good after market support as well.

I traded in my 2007 ZX3 Focus on a 2007 GT because I could'nt stand it. Slow as hell and the mileage wasn't that much better than the Mustang. I averaged 33 mpg in the Focus, and am getting 26 in the Stang. I do mostly highway, so it might be better in city mileage. I don't think the ZX3 came with the 2.3 ever. Only the 2.0. The Zx3 with the upgraded suspension packages handle great, but SLOW.

In 2003 and 2004 there was an option and you could get the 2.3L Duratec engine. Not very many had the 2.3 but they are out there. The 2.0L Zetec motor does suck, but the 2.3L Duratec motor is very nice and has tons and tons of potential. And you must have a v6 Stang to be getting 26mpg. And if that is the case still, 7mpg difference is alot.

Nope, I got a GT. Its got a V8 and everything !!! I saw my mileage go from 23-24mpg to the 26 I get now after I installed the Steeda udps. UDP=MPG !!! I drive mostly highway @ 70mph with the cruise control on toget that.
And I know that 7 mpg is a big difference, I drive 600 miles a week. But it only comes out to about $20 a week difference for me. I'd rather spend the money on gas than drive the econobox.
I know that the 2.3 Duretec was offered, but I'm pretty sure that it wasn't available in the ZX3, only the ZX4 and ZXW (wagon). I might be wrong, but I've never seen one. The SVT was a 2.0 in the ZX3.

In 2005 thru 2007 the 2.3 Duratec came in the ST model standard. In 2003 and 2004 the 2.3 Duratec was an option for the ZX3. I found one for sale around my area but it had too many miles. And yes I know the ZX3 had a standard 2.0 Zetec engine that sucked major *****.
So for an extra 25 cents a gallon, you're going to spend thousands on another car? That is stupid, with the money you're going to spend getting another car you pay for gas in the stang for at least a year.

I was just saying, no offense to the OP but I doubt the 96 will cover the cost of the focus, so most likely he'll be spending a few thousand extra to get the focus, why not just hang on to the mustang and buy a 1000-1500 dollar beater honda civic for every day commutes. That way you save a little cash and get to have the mustang.
