Well i try not to beat on my daily driver but I just had to post this, I raced my buddies 2.4ltr Ecotech Colbalt SS (automatic and not S/C) from a 20mph roll, I inched away from him up to 100 mph. I had about 2 car lengths on him at 100 when we let off. I am stick and we match on HP (I got the Duratech 2.5 v6). It was a good race all in all. Next about 20 minutes after that race driving home I pull up to a red Prelude, he had exhaust and his car was slightly lowered. I am assuming it wasnt vtech because there were no badges. Well were both at a red light and Im already feelin good about the Colbalt so Im like why not. light turns green and I get on it and so does he. I immediatly start to walk away. By about 90mph I was 3 car lengths ahead and let off.

I'm not calling BS. I was just calling how the hell did this race happen? It's funny that these cars raced, especially on the street [&:]. How fast are contours stock?

Is it an SVT Contour? I guess, either way, they both have the Duratec 2.5. So, I'll believe it. The SVT's are pretty darn quick for what they are. I've always kinda wanted one.

back when they made the svt,it was pretty fast compared to other cars of their class.technology came along way since the mid 90's.

my dad has an svt contour, does 0-60 in a little over 6.5 (with good driver mod) no top end pull tho. There was an article in Road & track where they removed the rev limiter on em and cranked one to around 8krpms and they felt they could've reved it higher. Anyway back to the race, if it wasn't an SVT i do not see the Contour bein that close with the Slobalt.

It is just a 2.4 auto Cobalt though. It's probably a high 15 to low 16 second car, at best. If the Cobalt had been a manual transmission, I would question it a little. But, with it being an auto, it doesn't surprise me at all. An auto in a 4banger willadd about a secondto your 1/4 mile time.
