Default heads up for you guys racing in texas

they just made street racing a class 3 felony. if caught, that means youre going to jail, itll be a $5k fine, no chance of getting your car back and youll have a felony conviction on your record for 40 years. so next time your in texas and someone revs on you, think twice.

I wonder how they define "street racing". If two cars happen to be speeding at the same time, is that a "street race"? I'd love to know the criteria.

i guess its at the cops discretion. i guess they are really trying to crack down after all these recent deaths due to street racing. a guy in my unit got caught last week on post doin 95 in a 30(before this law took effect) and they suspended his licence for 1 year. so this is a drastic step.

That's crazy. I always like to speed with a partner (and my radar detector). I'd hate to have a cop claim we were racing.

I bet plenty of people will lawyer up when they get cited for that one.

That's a great idea. So now people will just decide to run for it because they don't want to lose their car and get a class 3 felony on their record. IMO this is just going to cause more problems than it's solving.

Most of the time I love Texas...with the exception of the god forsaken government.

A kid I go to school with said he was in a rush somewhere doing about 75-80 in a 65 zone and some guy he passed sped up to flip him off or whatever he was doing and a cop saw them. Instead of giving them both speeding tickets he cited them for racing and the kid lost his liscense for 6 months. I can't say for sure if the story is real, but I can say for sure he gets rides to school and I haven't seen his car on campus in months.

Yep, now people that have built their cars for racing, are going to be running away from the police. So, how is this sapposed to save lives again?
