Hey,

New to the board, I like to see what the comptetion is up to

You should whoop his ***. A 50-shot might get him into the high 13's if he knew how to drive (sounds like he doesn't). He better have some decent rubber or he's goin nowhere. I wouldn't sweat it.

Hey guys tonight ill be in my first race with the cobra. Im racing this kid i know from school, he has an 03 RSX type S. He has a small shot of NOS less than 50 hp, a better clutch, and some mod that raises his rev limiter a little bit. Hes ran a 16.1 and 15.0 1/4 mile time at our local track KCIR and he always made up excuses for the times. Well he recently beat me in my old 94 auto gt 2 times. He shoots off the line pretty good, but now hes talkin alot of crap saying he can beat me by over 10 car lengths with my cobra... i was just laughing at him. i mean i dont know how to really "race" in this car yet because its my first 5 speed, but i think i can handle him...what do you guys think.
The RSX-S is a high 14 second car in stock form, with the better drivers managing 14.7-14.8s

You are trying to tell me that with nitrous and an tuned ECU, he’s running slower then stock times?

If this really is the case, I don’t think he was making up excuses for his times, because something seriously wrong must have occurred during his runs in order to pull pathetic times like that. An RSX-S with just a 50 shot and nothing else should be well into the 13s.

..so whats the deal? Do you live at a super high altitude? Or did he run a 15.0 without the nitrous? You need to be more clear. Because if he ran a 16.1/15.0 off/on the nitrous there is something wrong in this equation.

haha. My friend has a black, stick, RSX-s and he came up to the drag way with me because he thought it was the fastest car around. lol. I would never race him cause it was a waste of time. Well his first run was a 16 ish... Then second run was high 15's he managed to get it down to a 15.3..... He drives like a grandma now because he knows his car is a turd. lol. Then again i met a kid up there i talk to that has a RSX-S and some head work, computer work, lap top, some other junk that ran me and i ran a 14.3 to his 14.7. .... Wasnt too bad for a 4 cyl. lol. I was quite suprised... But i hope you spin off the line just so we can laugh at you for looseing to a slower car.

Per Motor Trend, using the aftermarket developers numbers (if anything they are low). This is a stock vs a "AEM" model with a aftercat, intake, new plugs, and a shot of N20:

' 02 RSX '02 AEM RSX
0-60 mph, sec 6.71 5.66
Quarter mile, sec/mph 15.11/94.9 13.93/107.3
Braking, 60-0 mph, ft 128 132
Slalom, mph 63.0 67.4

Link because the stupid table won't look right:

http://www.motortrend.com/features/p...e/112_0302_pt/

An RSX-S puts down about 150 WHP and 100 FT/LBs stock, on a dynojet. (This is from a honda site btw) The car wieghs a bit over 2800 LBs.

According to the good ole calcluator, that comes up to almost 18.67 Pnds/HP. (acutally I just did it at 2800 pounds, it wieghs like 2830). I don't think this is a formula for a 14 second car. For reference, the slow ole 00+ GT stock was sitting on something like 14.25 Pnds/Hp.

This isn't even touching the TQ issue, or the fact that it is FWD, so it isn's gonna launch anywhere near as hard as a 99+.

Race the ****. Your gonna eat his lunch.

Are you serious? You are going to sit there and bench race with magazine times? You damn well (should) know that magazine times are usually **** and they ALWAYS give the average times run with the cars. That means they aren’t even giving you the fastest times THEY ran, but an average of all the times they ran the car. So if the editor sucks at launching a FWD car that he’s never driven before and gets a crap 1st run, it’ll throw everything else off. Its common knowledge that magazine times are much slower then what real world times are when said cars are at the track with people who know how to drive them behind the wheel.

As I said, if you go to the RSX forums, you will see numerous slips, vids, and posts about people hitting high 14s with their stock RSX-S. I’ve seen this happen my self.

Also, they respond very well to mods. With intake/header/exhaust and an ECU reflash by a tuner called "Hondata" these cars are seeing high 13s. Not bad at all for naturally aspirated 2l engines in full interiored cars.

And to the person who mentioned torque, that’s a non issue at this point. Since it goes through various torque multipliers and what not, the difference becomes less and less relevant anywhere but on paper. this is why my car, with only 130 ft lbs at the wheels can still urn low 14 second time slips without me needed to gut my car to beer can status.

Anyway, if this guy has an RSX-S with a 50 shot, he has more then a good chance of winning. If he doesn’t have the nitrous Id have to go with the stang.

well last night we were going to meet up at quick trip so i waited....waited... and waited he never came lol. I live in Missouri, our altitude isnt bad. At the track he was makin stupid stuff up like ohh uh my NOS isnt working and so on. I guess he must be a crappy driver, and he does think its the fastest thing in the world. It was a waste of a night but i had fun drving around... thanks for all the input, its just that he made it sound like his car was the Shi!
