Couple of colleagues and I went to lunch today. (We’re all into cars – my buddy with the Explorer [his winter vehicle] has a Mercedes Benz C-230, the other has an Infinity G35.)

So we roll up to a red light next to an Eclipse with a fart cannon and pressure gauge on the dash. I’m in the back chillin, and both his and our windows are down as we peacefully assessed his vehicle among ourselves. Then outa nowhere my buddy driving punches it on green and gets the jump on the unsuspecting Eclipse. As we looked back amazed that we were walking him, we heard the turbo pressure release valve as he shifted, and flew by us.

I don’t think anyone expected that – a fuggin Exploder challenging a turbo Eclipse. My buddy who was driving is real lay back and never speeds, drinks, etc., which is why it was so surprising and funny too! We had him from the dig until he caught second and that turbo kicked in. Then we didn't even get a thumbs up! [:'(]

 

why not post this in the street racing section?

funny story though. had a similar thing happen. my friend was in his like, 97 or something explorer rev'ing at me at a light. he punched it so i figured why not and punched it. of course i caught and left him behind quick, but apparently a celica was racing too and was trying it's hardest. the explorer beat him even and the celica just got off on the first exit it could find before the next red light.

Is it a V6 Explorer? My parents have a V8 AWD Explorer and it cooks for a SUV. I can easily own many imports in it. Kinda funny too because nobody expects a big bulky SUV to be quick. I want to mod the engine (it has a 5.0 HO) and do a full exhaust on it and get it down into the 13's. That would be sweet.

 

LOL – Yes, it is (V8)! In fact it even surprised me. My buddy said exactly what you said in that no one expects a huge-**** SUV to give anything a run for the $$$, but it does.
