Down shifting for power.
If a car has a "top speed in gear", like Car and Driver magazine posts, of 60mph, where 60mph is where 2nd gear ends and 3rd gear begins, at the red line. If while coasting at 75mph in 5th gear, I downshift into 3rd gear and give the car full throttle and redline at say 90mph and shift into 4th gear. Will this type of downshifting and acceleration hurt my car? Hypothetically, I'm talking about a car with this kind of set up: 1st:0-35, 2nd:35-60; 3rd:60-90; 4th:90-120; 5th:120.
sure it will put more wear on your car than going in 5th gear revvin 1800.. but its good for it also, clean it out, and its hella fun. its not like putting your car to 5k will blow it.

it wont really wear out ur engine ....ur tranny and clutch will take most of the abuse...just rev match when u down shift into 3'd and u'll take most of the wear out of the clutch that way

if you wanna replace your clutch, do it repeatedly every time you wanna gun it. It'll take a while, but it won't be pretty when the clutch finally goes.
On the other side, I love cruising at 40 in 5th gear and dropping it to 2nd.
5500 rpm = b16a fun time

Yea its not all that bad, i mean the computer downshifts in an auto and if it was really bad then it wouldn't do that. Just use it in moderations, if your redlinning every gear everytime you shift then eventually things are gonna wear faster

Run that ****er to redline damnit!!! Just match the revs on the clutch and you should be fine.

I said run your car to the redline not into it. If hes blowing engines he should try changing his oil. A lot of cars are regularly running hard and most cars will go well past 100k.
