Default First time at the track with new car

Hey guys. Today I took the cobra up to Milan for the Wednesday "Test and Tune". The best I could pull off was a 13.9 @ 99.xx, with most of my times being around 14.1-14.2. I thought the car would be faster than this, so I've chalked it up to me not knowing what I was doing.

It's essentially a 2001 Cobra with 3.73 gears and drag tires...5 speed. I warmed up the tires in the water, but wasn't able to put up any smoke...Rev'd it up to 4-5k and let the clutch out (Kept foot on the gas), just squeeled the tires. Is there another way to do this or do I just need practice?

As far as the actual racing goes, I rev'd it up to around 2500 and floored it on green. Shifted about 6300 in first, then wound 2nd and 3rd out till almost redline, just barely got into 4th.

Does any of that sound wrong or a bad way of doing things? It's my second time at the track ever and the first time with a manual, so I'm not really unhappy with a 13.9, I just figure that the car has more that I'm not reaching yet. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Are you holding the brake pedal down while trying to burn out? You should be taking it to redline or beyond in each gear.

Some info on the tires would be helpful, size, brand/model. Since your having trouble burning out and didn't mention any traction problems off the line sounds like they provide plenty of traction for your car. Off the line try launching at a higher RPM, hopefully other Cobra owners can let you know what works for them. If you can't burn out at 4-5K then you can launch off the line at that rpm as well.
I don't understand how the tires could be wet and then just let out chirp unless you are letting the clutch out slowly. After you roll through the water in the burnout box did you dump the clutch hard with the rpm's up? Maybe you can provide some more info on the burnout as well.

Maybe I didn't phrase it correctly when I first posted, but the tires did spin a bit. I rev'd it up to around 4-5k, let the clutch out (Didn't ease off it, just let it off), and the tires would spin a bit but I'd be moving a small bit, then they'd catch and I'd jump. Yes, I did stay on the gas and in 1st

I didn't have any problems getting off the line, surprisingly, except for one time when I was the 2nd or 3rd car after some guy put down oil. That time I spun like mad.

The tires are BFG g-force tires (245/45ZR17) (Yeah, I just copied that off the BFG site...I don't know about tires, my dad got them.). haven't ever had a problem getting them to hook up off the line (That oil thing excluded) On my 13.9 run yesterday, my 60' was 2.0201, which I heard wasn't too bad?

Thanks again guys!

Yes to the motor swap. The car started out as an automatic V6 and wound up with the 01 cobra motor and 5 speed trans in it. Hence the name
