Default me vs. modded GTP

well I was heading down 16 and a black pontiac came barreling out of nowhere, merged in the other lane and attempted a flyby... at this point I tried to shut it down but he had enough momentum to get a car and merge, then he taps his brakes

so I pull up next to him at the speed limit and I started to say "a ricer flyby?!... WTF" but before I could he points at the lights ahead and goes "at the lights"

so while sitting at the light we start talking

him: you stock?
me: yeah, bone stock.. getting a tune tomorrow at 10AM
him: 5.7 or 6.0?
me: 6.0
him: wow, this will be interesting then because I'm pretty worked
me: yeah I saw those comp cam stickers and I heard a slight lope so I knew something was up
him: yeah, I have so much work into this, it's a 97 comp cam's, 15PSI pully, full exhaust and...
me: (I interrupted him) the lights about to go green, we'll see (saying it friendly)

and we are off

right off the line I got a 1/2 car... up to 40MPH I had a full car, then once we hit 60 I had about 1 and 1/2-2 cars and he just floated there up to about 80-90 and then I proceded to pull like the dickens, we went up to 120MPH and I would say about 4-5 cars

I slowed down and let him get close and brandished the thumbs up, he looked disapointed so I shouted "you kept up really good dude, nothing to be ashamed about your car scoots dude... nice job making her fast!"

he smiled and waved and we were both on our way

cliff notes

1997 GTP
-15PSI
-camwork
-full exhaust
-other goodies I'm sure

held pretty good up to 80MPH for a sixxer, died off at 80 and by 120MPH I had about 4 cars

my car, bone stock 6.0L GTO

even though I took out the spare and tools in the trunk, I'm pretty sure my GTO is still heavier than a GTP

Yep, he was making some power, only 5 length behind an LS2 GTO to 120 is impressive.

IMHO the biggest disadvantage for the GTP is it gearing. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think they have a 2.97 axel ratio.Plus the4T65 FWD tranny probably isnt as nice as the goat's 4L60E.

Not bad for a "buzzin' half dozen."[8D]

was he pullied?

i would have to imagine so, what would be the point of upgrading a blown car w/o touching the pulley..

a friend of mine had a GTP with pulley/intake/exaust/cam work and he was 13.4's@108ish

yeah, he had a pully, that's why he was pushing 15PSI

my best so far is 13.4 @ 104MPH on a 2.2 60ft, diddn't slip at all on this run, but I did hear him squeeling

it was nice to run into a worked one running a smaller pully and internal work, but inside I was expecting a better run :-/

Yeah, I think it's a 2.97, or around there. You see quite a few swap for the GPGT gears (3.29). The problem with GTP's, is they have awesome low-end, but terrible traction problems due to being wrong wheel drive. Topend sucks on them.

Nice kill, Morbid. A cammed GTP, running a 15psi pulley (I think that'd be about a 3.0, or so) is no slouch. It'd probably be a real reallow 13 second car, with traction.

ya I am supprised you pulled on him by that much, usually once these gtp guys start getting into cams they are low 13 high 12 second cars

Nice kill

so I'm being told, I'm pretty sure his car was beat on being a 1997 and the kid looking to be 18-19 years old, who knows, his tranny could be slipping... I just know his launch sounded like screeching alienbabies being chopped up in a big meat grinder powered by a 3.8L engine
