Default 1/4 mile help for 2001 stock Bullitt

Two weeks in a row I’ve been to the local drag strip for test and tune. The first time (And my first time down the strip) I was satisfied with getting staged and not looking like a fool. The car is stock, I was running a full tank of 87 octane and I ran a 15.093, no adjustment to tire pressures, launch at 1500-2500 rpm (2500 not so good).

Now my second time (Car still stock):

87 octane 1/2 tank with octane booster
Toyo Proxy Street tires
Street trim
Avoided the wet box, did a quick chip prior to staging.
Reving to 1500 rpm with no traction control, dumping the clutch for launch (Some spin)
Tire pressure at 26 psi
60’ time: 2.272
Shifting at 5500 rpm
Maxed out third gear, but didn’t seem like I needed to shift into fourth
990’ 12.644
¼ mile 15.004 @93.7mph

Can some please provide some insight on the following:

1) What rpm’s the launch at on street tires?
2) Should I avoid chirping (Letting out the clutch at 2500 rpm) my tires prior to staging
3) Is it worth running premium?
4) Do you typically find yourself shifting into fourth?

I realize that for the must part, it driver inexperience, but any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Where to begin. If you are heating the tires up in the water and then spinning them on the dry you are removing the previously heated rubber. If not a quick clean off chirp is useless. As far as 93 octane,If your car is not on a tune for it you will make more power on 87.87 actually has more potential energy than 93 but it also lacks a controlled burn like you get with 93.technical stuff but true.Street tires will typically not hook better when underinflated. It lets the center of the contact patch come off of the road=Less contact and traction than you would have had.Try spinning them on the street at different pressures and look at the contact patch for uniformity across.Start at recommended pressure and go up a littl than down a little until you get a good patch. The rest of your questions hopefully will be answered by the New Edge crowd.

Don't dump the clutch. Slip the clutch quickly when launching instead.

Do you shift fast, or do you just granny shift into gear?

The "chirping" you are talking about I think is also known as "dry hopping"....I wouldn't do it. As for your burnouts, since you have street tires they only need to be maybe a half second to spin (the goal is to get any debris/dirt/crap off the tires, not melting them before you get to the line since you don't have DRs/slicks).

Premium is only worth it with a tune (that goes for any car). As for shifting into 4th, you may find that you pick up a tenth or two in doing so...maybe others who also have ran their stock GTs will know which is best.

You were correct in avoiding the wet box on street tires. Go around it, and do a quick spin on dry track, as stated above. Then you are ready to stage. 26PSI may be to low. The fronts should inflated properly. Make sure you dont have any basic thing in need of attention, ditry air or fuel filter, etc.

Getting the 60' foot down will take a little practice, but shaving off 2 tenthwould bereasonable. Also granny shifting can add up over 3 or 4 gears. You probably be down into the mid and low 14's , were most New Edge will be, in no time.

wow.... just wow

ok i guess ill take it from the top

heres how i got my STOCK gt to go 13.7 at 102

30psi all the way around
1/4 tank of gas
no burn out box, no dry hop, no nothing
stage... i like to deep stage, just preferance though
bring the rpms up to about 3k or so and dont dump it, you need to play w. the clutch/gas some, know when its hooked then nail it... grab 2nd at 6k as hard as you can, ought to kick a little sideways if done well enough. grab 3rd just as hard at 5900-6000, should chirp... now... grab 4th at about 5300-5500... im talking wot, stab the clutch and rip 4th... dont be a ***** about it.

i drive like that and went 13.7 multiple times, on street tires on a preped track, no prep was 13.8... 2.1 short times... 8.9 1/8th miles... 13.7 at 102.xx.

you cant be afraid to break ****...drive the car like you have a pair

Well, a few years ago, I read that either MT/CD/RT mag ran a stock 01 bullitt to a 13.5 or so, a stock mach to 13.1 and a stock01 cobra to 13.6... Take it that the runs were probably perfect, but can be done. It'll take quite a few runs to duplicate those times so keep practicing.

Thanks for the tips

Honesty, sliping the clutch at a higher rpm and getting to forth sounds like the best, I've been hopping around a bit at launch. I doubt I'm granny shifting as I'm chirping from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd and this isn't from improper shifting. Forth should help, 3rd feels flat around 5200-5600 rpm, but I was able to make it to the end with-out shift (5600 at the finish line).

The car had a recent tune up, so that not it.

Practice, I guess.

Deep staging will hurt your ET, possibly by as much as a tenth or more. Shallow staging will net youthe best ET as it allows you to get a slight running start before your tires leave the beams and start the clock.

Howdo you change you staging orientation? At the track I go to you have to actuate two sets of lights, so I'm not sure how you couldstage deep of shallow, if you go foward too much you lose the second light, too deep and you never set up the second light. In other words I have no clue about my staging orientation.
