LSX Guys Step Inside
So its finally time to do some mods to the ole goat. The car is a bone stock 04 LS1 m6 gto with 15k miles. It is not daily driven, but I dont want to do mods that will make it a pain to dd if I need to use it. So will headers cause any drivablity issues? Or will it be just a louder, more powerful stock feeling?
I was looking at pacesetter headers....any good?

Is this a project that I can do myself with basic hand tools and some mechanical knowledge? Or should I just take it somewhere to have them installed? I know a new tune will be in order so does anyone know of a good shop in South Florida?
Thanks guys.

Unless you personally know someone who has done headers before on an LS1 car, you are propbably better off taking it to a shop. I can't see how headers would cause any driveability issues....at most, you may notice more sound and more SOTP feel.
The headers should definitelygive youa better exhaust note. No drive ability issues at all.Rwhp pick ups will vary but you will get(10~20)bit of additional power to the wheels. A good tunewill make everything better.
As far a doing it yourself, I don't know your skill level. But if you have never done it before, I would let a shop do the install this go round. You also may want to look into a mild cam. Since you're having the headers put on you may want to do it all at once...

I have pacesetter's on my car, and am very happy with them.
They made a difference in the good 'ol sotp dyno also.
My very first mod was a magnaflow CB. Although people have told me they could feel a difference in the power I could not.
Same for the SLP intake lid.
I am sure they helped my ET some, but just not enough to where you could really feel it.
The biggest improvement I have done thus far is putting in a nitrous system
I went with the Zex wet kit, as the ease of installation appealed to me.
Even with just the 75 shot, it shaved a full six tenth's off of my 1/4 mile time, with my trap speed increasing from 108 to 115 mph.
That impressed me.
The kit is able to be jetted up to a 150 shot, but I am staying with the 75 for now, as my car is untuned and I want to be sure my AF is good before upping the shot.
For now your idea of the pacesetter headers is a good place to start, and yes, they are pretty simple to install.
Goodtime to put in a good cat-back as well.
Have fun!

headers and a tune will make it a better dd. gas mileage will increase and you will gain 30 rwhp. no pacesetters. go arh or kooks.

OP, I'm not entirely sure on the Goats but on the Fbody cars header installs are a major pain in the ***. I'd just let a shop take care of it. You'll notice a pretty good power, sound, and MPG increase as well.
I had Pacesetters on my 04 Goat, no clearing problems, no scrubbing, etc. With the tune on top of the headers, I picked up 20rwhp (some of that was attributed to ditching the cats). The only mistake I made was going cheap and getting the non-coated headers. The black paint started peeling in about 4 weeks time. Didn't affect performance. I would suggest you let someone install them for you. The steering assembly is an absolute bitch and has to be unbolted in order to get the Pacesetters in. Don't waste an extra $400 on Kooks, SLP, etc.
