Rare sighting
OK, technically this isn't S/S but, I figure you guys are a great source. Last night I came out of a restaurant in Tulsa and saw sitting in the parking lot a showroom quality GT500 KR Vert.....yes, an old school 428 4spd white with camel stripes and interior. I'm assuming it was a 1968 model. It made this old fart catch a little wood it was so beautiful. Google has not been my friend. I am having trouble finding the Vert listed and was wondering if anyone knows the specs and how rare this sighting is. It's the first I've seen.
I don't know the exact numbers on the 68-69 GT500KR verts, but from what I've seen they are just as rare if not more so than the 70-72 Plymouth Hemi Cuda verts.. Numbers matching Hemi Cuda verts have been going for 6 and 700k plus or more almost every year at Barrett-Jackson for the last three or four years running. Definitely a rare sighting I'd say brudda.. And a lucky one too. The most rare car I've ever seen was 1938 Bugatti coupe I saw outside of Camp Pendleton about 10 or so years ago. If memory serves me correctly they made less than 50 of those in 38..
I'll dig a little bit and see if I can find out how many of the KR verts they made in 68..
Edit: I found this link, though I'm not sure if the figures it quotes are for sales or production, it looks like they made at least 517 of the GT500KR verts in 68 brudda..

[ul][*]1968 GT500KR Fastback 1053[*]1968 GT500KR Convertible 517 [/ul]The GT500KR is one of the most desirable Shelby Mustangs. These are refined muscle cars that were meant to be more daily driver in manner rather than have the early Shelby racing demeanor. With the combo of the Shelby heritage, big block motor and a vert to boot the prices for these have gone stratospheric in recent years. With the realitively low production numbers you still will usually see one at larger Mustang show but they always were a pretty rare sight on the street (clones excluded).
Yep, I was shocked, this thing was parked in a lot like a regular car......I would cry if someone dinged my door driving that thing. After doing some more internet searching it was a 68. I can't imagine someone parking a half million dollar car in a mall parking lot. [8D]
