I'm assuming that it says GVW or something like that before it says 4550. That would be gross vehicle weight which is the safe limit for the brakes on the car. Your car should weigh in at about 3500 pounds.

that makes more sense. however, im still pretty sure its more around 4000. i need to lighten it up no matter what though. I just hate ruining the interior, so now i have to decide whether i want to keep the inside seats and things stock.

any suggestions on lightening the care up without changing too much of the interior

curb weight on a challenger with an automatic is almost 4200 actually

http://www-5.dodge.com/vehsuite/VehicleCompare.jsp

and curb weight of the GT is 3500

http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...22/138160.html

still heavier than the cobalt ss's and the civics i was comparing it to.

its still not a light car whether its over 4000 or not. thats the only statement i was trying to make.

Heres what I do when I go to the track. Spare tire & jack=50 pds. Passerenger seat=45 pds. Back seat=50 pds. Miscellanous crap like floor mats, trunk carpet, cleaning the crap out of my car=20 pds. That little bit of weight reduction is good for a little more than a 10th and all that stuff can be bolted back into the car in about 20 minutes.

+1 the above.

And quick is right; the weight on the door is not the weight of the car. My boy has an SRT-8 Magnum and it says 6,000+ on the door; I think that's what a school bus weighs.....lol. You car being a 5-speed is probably just under 3,500 lbs; over that if you have the Shaker 1000 with speakers in the trunk.

The build sheet on mine (same year, 5-speed, with the Shaker 500) weighs 3,480 with all the weight.

BlueBeast: I think your numbers may be a bit off. The front seat 45 lbs; maybe. However, I have yet to come across any car which the back seats weigh 50 lbs. In the S197, backrest and buttrest combined is 20 lbs tops......

The seat backs on SRT-4s has 2 extremely heavy braces. Thats where all the weight is at. The seat cushion itself only weighs about 3 pounds. When I take them out again in the fall I'll slap them on a scale and see for sure.

4000 and 3500 is a huge difference in ET though, so that was everyone elses point.

rims, tires, driveshaft, remove sway bar, remove seats, that should get you knocked down a couple hundred pounds.
