Default Tire Q

I tore up my rear stock tires a bit last night while drag racing. What is the best drag tire I can put on a GT/CS? Stock size is 235/50ZR18 97W. I need to drive my car to the track so they must be street legal.

why and how did you tear them up at the track, the stupidest thing you can do on a street tire is do a long burnout

fuzion ZRIs for cheap decent performance tires in either stock size or i think 265/45zr18 should fit,

DRs could look at nittos or M/Ts

Best? MT ET streets. street legal drag radials. these will wear out very quickly if you drive them everyday like around 8k miles at best. not good in rain.
longest lasting DR with more hook than a regular street tire? nitto 555r's. 15-20k miles depending on how many burnouts you do. this DR will react much like a regular street tire in rain.

I bought a set of BFG Drag Radials on Craigs List 2 years ago and mounted them on my stock 17inch rims and still use them today

From what I've seen from Nitto, for your wheels, they offer the 555R's in a size either 285/35's or 305/45's which will alter your gear ratio one way or the other, so that's something to consider. The BFG's have 275/35 which will be shorter than what your running now.

Point I'm trying to make is do some research on tire sizes. I think you have 18x9's that came with the GT/CS. Find the tire that fits and keep in mind the difference in height of the tire because that could make a difference w/ your 3.55's

With the small rim width your going to find it hard to find something to fit on the stockers. Best way to go is pick out what exact tire you want to run then buy some cheap rims to put them on.

265/40/18 Mickey Thompson DRs

/ thread

I have a set waiting for the stockers, my BFGs are about done. I've pulled 1.7x 60's with them @ the track!

I plan on putting the new DRs on cheap rims as downriver1 suggested.

I have 18x9s on the CS with 3.55. I have to drive about 50 miles to the track so I am leaning towards the Nitto 555r's for longer lasting tires...or maybe the BFGs.

Question:
I have the Bama 93 race tune as my everyday driver, I would assume I need to get this tune altered to my new tire size? But if I put the stocks back on, I would have to change it back...dont know about this...maybe its too much trouble.

What about the burnout? I have a 5-speed with no line lock. How hot do I need to get these DRs and how would I do this without locking them up?

Well as far as the burnout, all you have to do is:
1.) take your right foot and place it sideways so that your heel is depressing the brake as far as it can go
2.) mash the gas with toes
3.) dump clutch with left foot and hold until you can see smoke in your side mirrors.

Just one thing: don't mash the gas (meaning don't floor it), instead just bring the RPMs up to like 5k while holding the brake pedal, then let go of the clutch. Your car may want to move forward, so adjust the brake pedal. If the car wants to bog, feed some more gas.
