Raced a third gen 305 TPI
So this kid I know has a blue third gen maro with the 305 TPI under the hood with an auto behind it. People have been telling me his car is so fast and it would kill my car and this and that so I figure we would line up and get the results instead of just random bench racing. He has a mid pipe and some mufflers, smog and a/c delete, and a CAI. For the record in case anybody cares I have a full exhaust, sub frame connectors, LCAs, MSD ignition box, and an E303. We line up and go. I shoot a good car and a half in front of him before I even leave first but I stay in it to see if he can make up some ground. By 100 mph I have him by at least two and a half, the whole time never shifting after 5k rpms. He gives me the fly-by after I shut down and when we get back to where we started he claims he won because he passed me at the end. Laughing, I ask him why he was almost three cars back until 100 and all he said was that he spun off the line. I ask if he'd like to go from a low roll to help with his traction, and he agrees.
We go from about 15-20 mph and I proceed to blow his doors off. I took advantage of the cam revving it to about 5.5K rpms before shifting. This time I didn't let out until over 120 mph just to be sure he knew the outcome this time, and he was over 4 cars back. We get back to town and the list of why he lost is about as long as his car. Before he leaves he tells me he wants a rematch after he swaps in his 350. Little does he know that I'll have a little something extra for him next time.

I also forgot to mention he had a shift kit. 94Blk5.0, after researching and deciding on every form of power adder for my 5.0, and almost installing a turbo kit on it I decided to do something a little easier. One of my good friends uncle has a 358w shortblock that has forged pistons and rods, and a steel crank that he has to get rid of. The block and internals have about 1000 miles on them and the only reason he is getting rid of it is because his wife is making him clean out the garage. I made a deal with him because his son has a fox with a shot 5.0 and he said if I give him the engine out of my car with the LTs(won't fit the 358 anyway) he'll let me have it for 500 bucks. During the winter while the car sits I plan on getting a set of aluminum heads, a custom cam, and a nice carb. With just the top end done the engine should be good for 425-450 crank hp with a mild setup.

Thats bad ***. 351's are really torquey stock, a built and bored one is going to be hell-on-wheels.
My problem is I always have everything planed out and budgeted and then something comes along to either mess with the plan or the budget. So right now everything is looking good, and I hope it stays that way.
I really am thinking about getting rid of it in the near future. I have things budgeted for the mustang and various spending, and also for monthly payments, right now it's not too expensive to keep the civic so I'll hang on to it for a little more. If I get this job that I am hoping for I won't have to get rid of anything and I'll still be able to spend obscene amounts of money of the mustang and still have some left over.
