It would belong here if you got the cammed LS1 Sonoma to race your dads Cobra. Which would be a pretty sweet race. But, my money would be on a 400rwhp(give or take depending on the cam) vs a 470rwhp Cobra, since the truck would be even lighter than an Fbody probably.

where would you get the thought a truck weighs more than a car? those things are around 4000pounds, maybe a few hundred more. Trucks gotta be more heavy than cars since they are more heavy duty in the first place, unless it's those real tiny beaner trucks hah. Actually it would be even a tad more than that weight I stated since it has a V8 rather than V6. I doubt it'd do much to a cobra like you stated, a truck isn't setup for racing from it's suspension(unless changed) to its aerodynamics and anything in between

check your facts buddy, a Sonoma is a rebaged S10, and they only weigh in at 3700lbs (4.3 v6 powered ones anyways).

and also, if you think that trucks weren't ever set up for racing, take a look at a Ram SRT-10, a Lightning, or Silverado SS.

Well, the thread isnt completely failed I guess. Actually tspence, the sonoma must not be too gooda running truck. Little bro told me last night that he (the sonoma) got outrun by a full bolt-on (minus heads/cam) lt1, by a length, from a 40ish roll. Maybe in need of a tune? The boy with the truck seems to know quite a bit about cars, as he's had several monster camaros and is selling a mid6 sec 4eyed foxbody, but, who knows.....

Then, this same lt1, which is a badass car I have to say, I know the guy, gets outran by one of those new evo's, which Im sure has plenty done to it. Not sure of the legistics of the race, just the lt1 got put down by 1 1/2, running up to 150ish.......

My apologies to JD/forum, just felt like since my topic wasnt the most exciting, I was getting "picked on" (for lack of better words)

PS as before mentioned, this sonoma is the gmc version of an s10, small extended cab truck, so, Im sure traction is pretty doodoo.

it was your subject matter only... street/strip is for telling of "war" stories on the street or strip.

thanks for your understanding.

Wow, tspence and 1990camaroRS, you failed. Why the hell would he put a 5speed behind an LS1. I mean, they came from the factory with a 6 speed. I think that you would have to make an adapter to get from the ls1 to the t5? I'm assuming

Actually, a reg cab short bed('98) weighs in at 3031, with a manual. And the older ones ('91-older) weigh in at only 2700. An LS1 will make it weigh a little more. But, it's still going to be a very light weight powerhouse. Judging by the runs that were done it in, it is either in bad need of a tune, or it has some really crappy gearing in it. I'm also wondering why it's a 5speed and why they didn't just swap the T56 in with the LS1.

Actually the T56 is junk for drag racing IMO, first gear has the wrong ratio and the syncros are weak. After I broke my T56 I was giving serious thought to swapping in a TKO, you can get them with the correct bell housing to bolt right up and a hyd. clutch. Instead I went with a 4L60E and a Yank 4000, dropped a 1/2 second off my ET and now it pulls the wheels. I really am not sure why people having a 6 speed is so great, I even see Mustang guys with 5 speeds wanting to swap out for a 6 speed, makes no sense to me.
