I totally lose
Mustang:
Curb Weight: 3352 lbs.
Engine: 4.0L V6
BHP: 210
Torque: 240
Jetta
Curb Weight: 3285
Engine: 2.0L I4
BHP: 200
Torque: 207
The Jetta is FWD too, you got a RWD car. But he has got a turbo. You shouldn't of lost by that much, infact I think you should of won.

Looking at your sig/name I was confused as hell when I saw he was pulling..Then I saw you was a sixer.I wonder what they actually make whp. You know some cars are under rated and put down more WHP than they are rated BHP
you can have 1000hp, and still loose to a 700hp car (ie big turbo Supra vs built engine BBF)
if you don't have a usable powerband, than you're screwed.
with his turbo, he also has a tq curve that's like a straight line. i can see the OP loosing to the Jetta, it's all about power UNDER the curve.

Looking at how close the numbers are makes me sick knowing i lost but I guess after you factor in the turbo and the torque curve it makes it a little easier to take in. But still.................its a freakin jetta.
My friend Kim has one of those and it's actually a pretty nice little car. She wouldn't let me flog on it but it seemed pretty quick for what it was. I wouldn't feel bad about the loss... I didn't see, are you a manual or automatic? If you're a manual I'd say just practice banging through the gears more and give it another go... on paper you should be able to beat him.
