ZR1 knocks 4 seconds off 'ring time
difference is the vette hasn't had a continuous production run since 1953, they've stopped production iirc a couple times.
the viper, I believe first year was 1993, and then it was only what a 12 second car stock?
the mustang is if I remember correctly the only car to have ever been in continious production for this long

I agree as far as it really doesn't stack up at ALL as far as pony car vs hard core racers...

Well I was fortunate enough to take my car around the "Ring" was a slippery cold day so I took my time... if you feel like wasting 13 or so minutes of your life go ahead and watch... also that was bone stock except shorty antenna I think...

Is it this I can attest to? if that's what your implying, your right. I can guarantee you that the ZR1 with a good driver with enough seat time around the track will best that time.
but knowing the lines of any track takes a ton of seat time around the track.
I'm sure there is alot left in most of these cars that go around the track. It's not like were taking someone who has raced that specific vehicle around that specific track hundereds of times, we're talking about "official conditions".
I'm sure just putting a decent set of tires on the ZR1, not that the $500 michelins are crap, but a stickier tire on all four corners I think would greatly reduce it's lap time
EDIT: let me give an example. This year I raced two C6 Z06's around willow springs raceway, one was a bone stock 07 model, the other, a modified 08. I think the modified one was running a full exhuast, but somewhere around 600rwhp, I think he was running a hot cam or something, but he never drove the car. The guy in the Stock z06 was driving it every single day to work.
which one do you think beat me? Sadly enough to say, it wasn't the modified one. yup, the stock 07 Z06 consistantly bested my times that day by about .05-.1 seconds per lap, and the modified one couldn't get within a second of my slowest lap
