DSM Vehicles
it's a long story really
ummm...
me and my mustang friends from muskegon all went to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the wings game and there was a giant JDM brigade taking up a big section of the parking lot
so I took it upon myself to see who it was and followed them out and politely asked if any of them wanted to race.... so I quickly find out the fastest of them was the talon (all the cars were civics, tegys and the like) and the owner was pretty rude to me as was most of the JDM guys... but I said that I wasn't trying to talk **** and that I just wanted an honset run
we started talking about mods and he wanted to make sure I was all motor and then we headed out... the JDM guys blocked out behind us and in front of us for the race (they thought they were far enough ahead where they could floor it and just keep ahead) but we came up on them pretty fast and they hugged the shoulder to get out of the way
that's how I found out the talons mods and after we raced and he broke some of the civics that were behind us gave me and my camera man a thumbs up
we all know each other now and now all the domestic and imports in the area just kind of hang out and talk shop thanks to this race lol
::sigh:: that's the story lol
From what I've seen if they are well maintained they can be made fast and be reliable. It's all in how the driver maintains and treats the car, abuse the **** out of anything and it'll fall apart. A kid that goes to a local car meet has a completely stock looking except for the exhaust, Talon TSi that pushes about 420 to the wheels. As for Stone, you never know what people do to things before they sell them, check this out.
guys, how can you be this ignorant?
crankwalk was not very common, and it only happened to 95/96.
They get their bad name and rep from their white trash drivers... no maintenance, just beat on it all day.
You put 2k into a stock awd dsm, and then put 2k into a fox, evo, wrx,f body,etc and the dsm will always be faster. Cheap for fast, but they are seriously junky cars.

the fbody will have more than 1 pass in it.
2k in mods will get an fbody damn close to 10s. stall, cam, heads, tune (if ur froogle enough).
2k into a fox will get you pretty damn fast too since their parts are so cheap. the fast dsm's we have around here have a good bit of money in them, and they barely run unless its WOT.
me = not impressed

think your facts are a little misguided. It was 95-99 that got crank walk. and it was common in 80% of the GST and GSX's in the 85,000 to 100,000 mile range. Essentially everyone that knows anything about crankwalk knows that the 2 gen 4g63t was a 6 bolt main and the 95-99 had a 7 thus causing the crankwalk due to an elongated mainbearing. i had a 99 gsx that ran forever. I had 650 AWHP reliably. And the main difference in exterior was the rear bumper cover. round circular backing lights denote a 97-99. 96 and older has the backing lights around the license plate.

Pretty much the fastest street car in my area is a early 90's Talon. The people who own it are douchebags and everyone hangs from their nuts but you have to give credit where credit is due. I think it runs a 6 flatish 1/8th.
I'm not worried about how fast they are. There are much faster fish around here. the day I was actually at the strip there was a single Turbo Supra running a 9.2 @150mph, crazy fast. There are definitely fast cars around here, they just seemed kind of interesting
