Ford Edge goes down... tool
You simply put that nutless wonder in his place, no harm done. I would've done the same thing. A high of 22 degrees, damn dued, we had a low of 41 here today and I was complaining. NC ftw!
Well I'm in Florida where the weather is nice all year round, and had a similar tool today. A guy in a late 90's early 2000 Camry kept creeping at the light. It was just annoying. So He took off like a madman, I took off slow...when I realized he floored it, I decided to embarrass him. I dumped on it, brought it to 5500rpms, slammed it in 2nd and chirped, and by the end of second I pulled like 4 cars on him. I then stayed at the speed limit, where he continued on with a ricer flyby.
It's not that I think I'm special that I have a fast car, I just can't stand people that creep at the light. Guess it was an equally worthless run op! HAHA! Good times!

Now, please explain this to me.........
Overdrive is just the final gear, or an "extra" gear if you will, right? If this is the case, then how the hell does it affect the launch? If you're going from a dig, won't you be in first gear? Overdrive doesnt come into play until you've "run through the gears" (essentially 5th/6th gear for a manual is the cars' overdrive).
Im not trying to be a (complete) smartasss, but this is the second time recently Ive heard someone say that their car is so much faster with the o/d off. Please, if Im incorrect, in any or every way, please enlighten me.

O/D has no effect on the launch. Like you said, once you've gone thru the gears it comes into play. I turn my off simply because I don't want my car going into O/D at 5800 rpms and messing up the trans. I say that because I did it to two 4l60 transmissions in my Z28. The guy I bought my trans from (Performabuilt) said that it's pretty common for people to hit boost, spray, or simply shift into O/D at a high RPM, causing damage to the (I think he said sun gear?) can't remember the exact name, but in other words, he said doing that is very hard on the overdrive/trans.
Not sure of the technical names as far as the guts of a tranny, but Im assuming what you're talking about stone goes along the same lines as not towing with the o/d on? Too high of a gear for the abuse...... Which I understand 100000% where you're coming from, makes perfect sense. Its the "its soooo much uber faster with the o/d off, especially off the launch" nonsense that was erkking me.
My buddy and I used to argue this back when we were 16. "Man, when that thing kicked into overdrive, it just took off!!!" He couldnt understand that it was coming OUT of overdrive and downshifting to a lower gear.
Well, I have to show this thread to the ol' lady, just so she knows I can be right about something.....

Haha, don't **** her off too bad man. I've had that same argument. I've actually heard it called a "passing gear" whenever people refer to the trans kicking down (out of O/D) and into a lower gear, lol.
Yea, it basically comes down to an overloading issue on whatever that overdrive part is, probably puts a decent load on the rest of the transmission as well. Like you said, its the same type of abuse as towing in O/D would be.

Soooooooo.........are you a copper too, or were just high-beaming the guy to death?? Cmon, gotta enlighten me now, got me wondering....
EDIT: IIRC, your old avatar was of a catfish with lights on it. I thought that was just a pic, maybe you are.........
ONE OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anything the Edge driver would have been ticketed for failure to obey with his stunt at the stop sign.
I am curious Buster.. what do you do for a living? Are you infact a nanny?
