Question about 1/4 mile time!
I just got back from my first trip to the track. I wanted to see how the car would do on all engine and compare it with nitrous on. Unfortunately, I was unable to fill my tank before I left, because the shop had a broken pump. The guy behind the counter weighed it and said the bottled weighed 21 lbs. That seemed reasonable to me...
I did not rev the engine before taking off. I just took my foot off the break and hit the gas. Stock tires.
Temperature was about 44 degrees.
Here are my runs (all numbers truncated):
Run 1.
My first run ever!
O/D On (forgot to cut it off)
Traction control on
NO nitrous
60 ft: 2.2 s
1/8 mile: 8.8s @ 83.06 mph
1/4 mile: 13.5s @ 103.31 mph
Run 2.
O/D Off, Traction Off, Nitrous Armed
60 ft: 3.3s
1/8 mile: 9.8s@ 82.12 mph
1/4 mile: 14.6s @ 102.88 mph
I spun like crazy, let off the gas and then floored. Killed my 60 ft time!
Run 3.
O/D Off, Traction Off, Nitrous Armed
60 ft: 2.7s
1/8 mile: 9.4 s @ 82.25 mph
1/4 mile: 14.2 s @ 102.95 mph
I hesitated on the throttle a bit.
Run 4.
O/D Off, Traction On, Nitrous Armed
60 ft: 2.1s
1/8 mile: 8.7s@85.11 mph
1/4 mile: 13.5 @ 103.09 mph
I floored this one all the way.
Questions:
For runs 2 and 3. I probably had 5 or 6 lbs of nitrous left in the tank. Which means 2 or 3 lbs of usable nitrous oxide, right? I weighed the bottle tonight on my bathroom scale (only but so accurate) and got a little less than 20 lbs. Call it 19.75 lbs or so.
The bottle weights 14.75 lbs, so I should have 5 lbs of nitrous left.
Provided that bottle pressure is fine (it at 900 psi, which isn't bad and the heater was on), should I see much gain with 5 lbs of nitrous left? I'm starting to think something might be wrong with my system.
I recently changed my window switch to spray between 3k rpm and 5.5k rpm, so that the nitrous would cut off prior to the shift. Maybe that's killing me?
Still, I'm secretly suspecting not enough nitrous was in the tank.

Ok, I just checked the bottle with a digital scale it weighs 22.6 lbs. That means I should have 7.86 lbs in there. Pretty obvious solution, my nitrous system is not working properly.
I'm going to check the jetting and then all of the wiring. What a pain in the neck!

I found the problem. The bottle heater was wired to the same 12 volt source as the system. The bottle heater pulls 20 amps and the relay fuse is rated at 15 amps. When I turned the bottle heater on it blew the 15 amp fuse and the entire system went down.
Duh.
