Street/Strip Raced a guy from a light? Had that ride of yours on the timed track? Tell your story here.

So. Why the need for slicks or drag radials?

You are not going to launch your car like those guys. They have some very dialed in suspension and do everything they can to bleed off low rpm torque. Which is the exact opposite of what you want in a street car. Even a Nitto 555r is going to be worlds better than a regular street tire....and people get 20,000 miles out of them.

I have always wanted to race a stock 60s muscle car, out of curiosity. i know that most of those times they published back then, they had slicks on the cars. Now it's impossible to find an unmolested muscle car on a strip because they are worth so much.

A 60's muscle car in 100% stock trim is a complete turd by todays standards.

Yeah I've heard a 14.0 was a smokin' fast time back in the early seventies.

That said. Look at this. It appears some people did quite well with them.

Look at the old Vette on the very first page....his *** is sittin on the ground. Someone has WAY too much money.

And like JD said, the old musclecars are nothing compared to todays standards, hell, 18 years ago standards with the debut of the LT1 and then Ford almost figuring out the 4.6 in 1999. I love to hear the old guys talking about how fast their cars were. I just let them talk and nod and agree. It'd be disrespectful to tell them the truth.

A 66 427 Cobra was a bad MF'er, but you almost never saw them. Most of the cars in the top ten on list were special edition cars. A ZL1 Camaro was more rare than anything on the road today almost. If you put those cars on a decent tire they would be 1-2 seconds faster. The Cobra has potential to run 10's on a slick. And please do not think that those magazine times are anything close to what real people have done. Look at the 02 Z06, those cars have been in the 11's in 100% stock trim, and more than once. Once again, magazine drivers are not what you people make them out to be, esp in drag racing, they are not pro drivers, if they were they would be actually racing instead of writing about racing.

Yeah that's true. The 427 was insane. Still is. Lots of people died in those cars or so I've been told. Small car with a huge engine and TONS of power. Original examples are worth a million +.

I sometimes show some of my time slips to my father's neighbour who used to race. He just shakes his head when he sees them saying that anything under 16s was really moving back in the day. Those old muscle cars had all the torque in the world but would always blow the tires off them.
