Default Vette help

OK, this will probably get moved, but, I need some help from you Vette guys and Vet gear heads

GF and I are looking at an 01 Vette (auto) with over 12k in upgrades which include:
Magnusen/Lingenfelter blower and Lingenfelter hood
Z-51 Axle, Z06 exhaust, 3200 torque converter, heat shield
and lots of pretty stuff like glass roof and body crap

Supposedly it's putting 388 ponies to the rear wheels. The big hangup I have is that the car has a little over 100k miles on it with the blower installed at 30k miles.

My questions for you guys:
Is 100k miles with a blower a disaster waiting to happen?
What does the 3200 torque converter accomplish?
Guy said there was no tuner, so, how do you control the blower and
what kind of psi are these running?
What kinds of times do similar Vettes run?

Sorry.....this is not truly S/S, but, I know you guys will have the info I need.

I would definatley not buy this car. 388 to the wheels? He is probably running around 6psi. He will probably run low 12s I would say.

I dunno there is just too many miles on a supercharged car. Unless you are getting one hell of a deal I wouldn't even consider it. It's up to you.

How much does he want for it?

A torque converter allows the motor to rev higher before turning the tires over. Much like slipping a slutch in a manual. You'd probably love it.

Car can't be running much more than 6psi if it's stock internals. 388rwhp isn't so bad considering how much power he's losing through the auto and then the converter. I lost 20rwhp by just adding a converter to my old car. Picked up .5 second in the 1/8th, and was 1.6x'ing the short time, so it was worth the 20rwhp. Car should see 11's on a tire. A torque converter does wonders.

Stock heads/cam? Stock tranny? Rear?

If the car has been taken care of, the LS1 will last for a long time. I wouldn't worry so much about the mileage.

As far as I know the tranny, motor, and rear are stock......I knew the LS1s were low psi motors with a blower......thought they were strong long mileage blocks....it's nice to hear it confirmed. It's got Eagle F1s on it now. Supposedly it's hwy miles. The guy had another Vette that he raced, this one was his show car with all the custom paint and body work. It looks like I may be taking the Hemibeast for a 16 hour trip to bring it back.

Got a link to the car? Where'd you find it? I didn't know it wasn't local. You can get a super fast/nice car for around that price range if you're willing to drive. Check out LS1tech.com's classifieds. Seems like everyone has a 10second/11 second daily driver over there and they're all the time getting new ones and rid of the old ones.

If I were you, and was looking for a nice fast car. I'd definately look on that site. For the money you're looking at, you could have a MUCH faster ride for a few k more.

I agree with Derek, for that kind of scratch you should be getting a faster car. There was one local to me that ran high 10's and it was about the same amount. Also you Mustang guys need to stop thinking an car has to be a stick to fast/fun. In LS1 land a stalled auto is the way to go...at least if you want to go fast.

I wish my car was auto/stalled. I like the 6 speed for the driveability, but it'd run CONSISTANT, that's the key, mid 10's with an auto. I guess the AOD killed the reputation of an auto with the Mustang guys.

I dunno I would keep looking. You can get a lower milage one for that price. It's alot of money for a lot of miles. IMO. You can find a C6 for almost 25k. Have you thought about the C6?

I would keep shopping.

I don't know much about 'vettes, but I wouldn't do it. That's a lot of miles on a car that I would assume was upgraded to be flogged on. I'm sure that was a rough 100K miles for that thing. Also, get a manuel!
