Great advice in Stkjock's link.
A few additional suggestions:
- Most S197 GT owners launch anywhere from 2500-3500 rpm while slipping the clutch to prevent engine bogging and excessive tire spinning.
- Disconnect the battery for at least 30 minutes to wipe out the PCM's adaptive learning when you arrive at the track. This will increase your engine's performance if you had done a lot of conservative driving in the recent past. (Note: You may notice erratic idle speed after doing this. Nothing to worry about. It will go back to normal after 20-30 miles of driving.)
- After reconnecting the battery, set the rev limiter to 7000 rpm with your tuner, and shift at 6500 rpm. This should allow you to cross the finish line in 3rd with your 3.55 gears, and thus avoid a 3-4 shift that can reduce the car's momentum. It also prevents the throttle body from slowly starting to close at 300-400 rpm before redline, which reduces power.
- Heatsoak kills our engine's power. Allow it to cool down whenever possible.
- Lowering rear tire pressures to 22-26 psi may improve traction.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
