Red face Drag Guys Please Help!!

okay so my fastest time on my stock kdws is 13.71 @ 106 with a 2.1 60ft time. all i have is the bullitt cai and 93 brenspeed tune. it seems like i cant launch over 2k rpm and i have to slip the clutch so i dont go into a spin frenzy. also i was wondering at what rpm our engines make peak hp and when it would be best to shift? i always went to 6k and shifted. thanks for any and all tips and info

Question

I have never drag raced mine but I was wondering, do you turn off the traction control when you race? Does traction control help or hurt at the dragstrip?

You should've asked this in the Street/Strip section dude.

It's normal that you have to slip the clutch. You can't just dump it and expect a good launch. Try reving 2500-3000rpm and experiment with slipping the clutch out. You want to get it out as fast as you can without spinning.

A 2.1 60' time isn't that bad for your mods and the stock tires.

i am jealous of you people with decent tracks and elevations. the best i could pull out here in vegas with drag radials and my mods was a 13.7@102 with a 2.0 60' time (before the 4.10's) with me and 1 passenger in the car and 3/4 tank of fuel. and from what i understand thats not a bad time out here. the track here is at 2100 feet and usually hot and dry.

i cant wait to get out there with the 4.10's and see how i do with them.

If your track is up at a higher elevation you ought to be checking your density altitude adjusted times and trap speeds.

Your times seem about right, the clutch should make up for lost traction, keeping it in the band is good, try a slow roll 1500 rpm and then punch it dumping the clutch. at 30mph these stock tires will grab, you will get lower times but lower mph. Traction at the bottom is time at the big end but less running room to reach higher speeds

Keith, the tc is a pain and is going to hurt your entire run, keep it off.

If he's spinning the TC will help.

But it's just a band-aid.

Good drivers take the car to it's limits but busting out of traction is losing control. Don't worry about mph, get the traction under your control, not the cars. Lower the air pressure a little and see where that gets you. 1500 rpms and let the clutch pull the car before you hit it, Pratice will teach you what not to do and discipline will give you control. Don't be in a hurry, you will get it. These cars want to run so you need to improve you. Once you are tired of 13:4 at 103mph with a 2.05 60' get the dr's and take yourself to a whole new experience of launching and 107+mph, after that you will need a new drug, some boost perhaps? or a little juice?

Honestly I don't know how you'd not be spinning if you roll into 1st gear at 1500rpm and then literally stab the throttle while dumping the clutch the rest of the way. To me that seems like it would be spin city.

I couldn't get stock GT tires to hook for crap beyond a point. it did help lowering pressure to about 20 (on Pirelli tires). But Once you get spinning and loose, you're playing a dangerous game.
Just spring for some race tires, like drag radials. Get a couple stock 17" rims and put them on before you go to the track, then drive back on them when done.

Drag radials helped me a lot.
