C5 Z06
Apologies if this is posted in the wrong area but it was either this or OT since it isn't really a technical question.
I have noticed a couple C5 Z06 cars come up for sale, private party, with under 20K miles. These cars have the LS6 and are the 405hp models. Look like total creampuffs. And they are asking around $28K for them.
I have to admit. I'm interested. The C5 Z06 seems to be a damn snappy car from what I've read on wiki. 0-60 in under 4 seconds, 186mph top speed. 1/4 mile in high 11s.

Versus a stock or lightly modded S197 GT like mine it's a no brainer. The corvette will totally dominate it in every way possible.
My current car is almost paid off. 13K miles and I owe around 7500. If I were to buy one of these corvettes I would have to sell my GT and put the 10K balance I would have after payoff towards the new loan. In short I would owe about 18,000.
So? Do I sell the GT and buy the Z06? Suck it up and start over on my loan? Is it worth it?
The GT can be made to match or exceed this corvette in straight line performance but I would have to use a blower. The Z06 is already pretty damn fast in a straight line without it.
Thoughts?

I would save up a few more $K and buy a base C6. It's going to be more comfortable and just as fast with the same basic potential as the C5 Z06, which is a bit dated. I've seen prices on used C6's plummet lately. Hell, I saw a C6 Z06 for $50k like 6 months ago.
I would just pay off the Mustang, and buy a Vette to augment it down the road.
Hmm autotrader has nothing under 30K for the C6. Most are in the 35-40 range and that's with mileage. Strange.
I'm not real thrilled about parting company with the mustang which is partly why I'm kind of debating this pretty hard.. I like how fast the corvette is without having to resort to "tricks" like FI. Everyone always raves about the GM engines and how blah the 4.6 Fords are.

Yeah the C6 is just kinda out of my price range I think. $28K is pushing it for me already which is what the C5 Z06 costs w/low miles. Plus if I were to get a C6 I'd want the LS3 model which means even more moolah.
Sucks to want things and not have an excess of disposable income. Know what I'm sayin??
Maybe I should just keep the GT, pay it off, throw a few more N/A mods on there, and then decide whether I want to save up for the KB or whipple. Or just put a downpayment on a C6 at that point. Gah... decisions!

I was way off on the mileage tho...

Hehe yah. I know the smart thing to do would be to keep what I have and get it paid off. Or at least sell it before I buy another car. But I like the GT, my first rwd car with any reasonable power, and I've put a lot of work into paying it off early and keeping it clean.
That C5 Z06 just seems so attractive. A lotta performance for $28K asking price. And it looks pretty sweet IMO..

I would just pay your car off instead of rolling the payoff into a new car. You'll be able to save money faster without the car payment and can put it toward what you really want.
If this was two years ago I would tell you the opposite, but having no debt is really for the win.
