Default WD40 on Tires?

I talked to a guy the other day whose family owns a small drag strip, and he told me a way to make cars hook better is to spray WD40 on your tires. He said a lot of the Jr. Dragsters do it to their tires. Apparently it softens them up and makes them stick like glue. This didn’t make sense to me and I was wondering if anyone else has heard or done this? I didn’t want to mess up a good set of tires if it softens them up. What you’re supposed to do is just spray it on before you run, and then go without a burnout. Idk it didn’t make much sense but I thought id post this to see if anyone else has heard this.

WD40 eats rubber. If you like your tires, don't do it. If it'll be one of the first runs, you can probably get away with it if you make a few more passes and do a couple burn outs to get it off.

That can't be good for the paint....do you wax right afterwards?

To make your tires sticky?

I've never done it... just read about it.... I'd think you'd wash it right off with soap and water and it would not be an issue.

Yeah, I would not take a chance at this.

Best way to avoid rubber on the side of your car, is to get some painters tape, and cover the area where rubber will go from burnouts and other stuff at the track.

Peanut butter takes it off very easily. I recommend smooth rather than cruchy and don't eat after use :-)

If you brush it off after each run or before you leave the track, it comes right off with a swipe of the bare hand. The longer you leave it on there, the harder it is to get off.
Don't forget to get it off the underside of the tailpipes too.

About the WD-40, I wouldn't do it. If it is softening the tires, it is also breaking them down. And there's just something about spraying lubricant on a tire that doesn't jive in a battle for more traction. I wonder if those JR dragsters are doing it to help get the tires spinning during the burnout, and once the tires are good and hot, the WD is long gone.
