Default Ran a blown fox

So tonight I was hanging out with some friends at Applebees having some drinks, watchin the devils game(devils suck BTW, go Rangers!!!) . We decided to leave and go back to one of my friends house. On the highway on the way back I run into a very clean red LX with the vanilla ice wing. His car sounded pretty quite, so I guess as I passed him he heard my car because he looked over. He gave it a little throttle to keep up even with me and signaled to race. I only had two beers and the highway was empty so I agreed. We slowed it down to about 35 mph and I honked off the three. I got a slight jump right away and sprayed leaving him a good 4-5 cars back until 100 mph when I shut it down. After another run with the same results I pulled off into a gas station to get some gas and he pulled in to BS. He asked me what I had done, so I gave him the list, and he gave me his. It was a 91 LX with a Vortech s-trim at 8 psi, shorty headers, catted h-pipe, flows, and a power pipe, stock AOD, and stock gears. He said he was very impressed with my car, and I told him how much I liked his except for the wing, he said he got it like that but plans to get rid of it soon. I really expected more from his car after I found out what was done, but I guess considering his mods, he'd be lucky to have 275-300 whp, not to mention my gearing advantage. I did spin when I hit the nitrous because I had my 17" cobra replicas with the street tires on, so I guess I could have open up that gap a little more. So as of right now I'm 3 for 3 with the N20 on, I'm really dying to get a good race and get to the strip to get some numbers. This Wednesday is looking good, so who knows. Just thought I'd share.

Nice! I gotta see this car of yours. It sounds like a beast (put up some vids/links if you got 'em). I bet the AOD and stock gearing is killing that guy.

When I go out looking for a car to race with the camera and a passenger to film it nothing, when I'm alone and not expecting it I always get them. I got a pic postend in my garage right now, but it's with the hood not fully painted and right after I finished the n20 install so it looks like a mess. One of these days I'll get a good daytime race vid for you guys, but like I said, it's always when I least expect it.

Any predictions on what you think you'll run? Are you gonna be running on street tires or race tires?

I'm thinking with the DRs off the spray a high 13 should be rather easy considering the car runs better than the 89 did, it's lighter, and with less mods the 89 was a consistent 14.1-14.2 car at a tad under 100 mph. I'm thinkin with some good launches a 13.6-13.9 should be doable, and a low 13 easy on the spray. I'm just afraid the t5 wont stay together with hard launches and spraying. The street tires are now strictly for the street LOL, no more wasting my time.

You'll do better than a low 13 spraying.

Like I said I don't wanna risk blowing the t5 though. I had the car down for longer than I expected for the swap and I'd hate to have it sit again, so I might just baby it. I do however have high hopes for her with a decent launch. I've heard of people with my suspension setup cutting 1.7 60's and even the occasional 1.6. With no other changes the 89 should have been pulling in the 13.5-13.6 range dropping 3 to 4 tenths off the 60'.

EDIT: the 86 is also lighter, feels like it's running better, more areodynamic(LX vs. GT) has a few more suspension mods, and drag specific springs. I've got high hopes for the 86 to say the least.

If that T5 does end up breaking (hopefully it'll hold forever) let me know. I know where one is with about 100k on it. Its one of those "please take this off my hands" type things.

Well I kinda had plans to go with a tko600 for my future build anyway so IDK. I might have to wait until I'm permanently stationed somewhere though to make that call. If the t5 goes and I need a quick replacement, I'll definitely shoot you a PM.

A buddy of mine has a stock head, b303, crazy intake, bolt on 5.0 with a vortech pushing 14PSI.

I ran 2 tenth's quicker then him in the 1/4 with him having 8 more mph then me.

I was on 100shot and my car is 200lb's heavier. (he also dyno'ed at 60 more HP)

thus proving N2O>boost.

good run man, get it to the track.

Dont be to scared of launching it hard, i launch my hard as hell and have had no issues. If you want just spray in second gear on or something, or just wait to spray till the clutch is fully out (when i did that my 60' suffered by being .4 tenth's higher then my "all out" run)
