Default Poor Track Times

Last night was my VERY FIRST time ever racing. It was moderately warm, probably high to mid 80's, and quite humid. I left the spare and everything in the car, and had my bag of clothes and other stuff. So i was definately not as light as i could have been.

1999 Mustang GT, 5sp, 4.10's, o/r H, borla stinger catback
The tires are 245/45/17ZR ContinentalExtremeContact which are bald close to the tread indicator and are WINTER tires.

My first run was a disaster, i turned off TC too soon after starting my car, and i didnt pay attention to it, (apparently if you turn it off, right after starting the car, it doesnt turn off..lol)

i couldnt stage cause i didnt konw how far to go foward, so that was embarrasing, but okay, here are my times,, 4 runs

VERY FIRST ONE EVER,,,embarrasing too
R/T .333
60' 2.688
330 7.264
1/8 11.058@ 69.68
1000 14.028
1/4 16.445 @ 94.56 that was a horrible run, i bounced on the start cause of TC and i missed 3rd too.. it was terribly bad

2nd
R/T .674
60" 2.422
330 6.639
1/8 9.897 @ 76.92
1000 12.665
1/4 14.964 @ 98.70 better, but still bad cause i tried feather out clutch from about 1K

3rd
R/T .551
60' 2.625
1/8 10.006 @76.60
1/4 15.025 @ 99.07 once agian, i tried feather, but didnt do to well

the last run, i dumped the clutch at 2K and got on it alot more,, still didnt powershift enough to get a chirp into 2nd or 3rd it was my best run though

R/T .401
60" 2.223
1/8 9.542 @ 76.91
1/4 14.545 @ 99.39

are those highlighted numbers okay for what i have? i mean, 14.5 seems to be normal from what ive read on this site with similar mods and no tires.. the more feedback the better,
the only number i was happy with all night was that 2.2 60' with my poor *** tires
thanks guys

That last time looked pretty good, but with better tires your 60' time will improve and will affect your overall time the most. Practice, practice, practice..oh and cash for grippier tires

With good tires, and good driving that car could easliy be a mid 13. Most magazines got the stock 99 GT 5spd to a 14.1 or 14.2 stock.

Because magazines have seasoned drivers that take a lot of practice runs to get used to the car and how to shift first.

Not everybody is going to run that, but 72... you should be down to 14.1 at the very most. Good runs though for your first time out. What track did you go to?

i went to muncie,, i knew i wasnt going to go out and run a 13 but i was hoping really low 14's with my mods,, i cant believe a 2.22 60' hurt me that bad

but yea, the track at muncie wasnt horrible, there were just a bunch of hillbillies,,lol, but i suppose you'll have that at a dragstrip

Yeah, you just need to work on your driving. That car should run a high 13, 14.1 at the most.

that mid to high 13's is with tires though,,

i was just looking for some encouragement just to make sure most of the problem IS the tires, and not realy me or the car

are those traps about rigth though for a 99 with just a o/r H and a catback?

Probably, but it is possible to achieve those times with street tires. You just need a little practice with your launch. Once you've gotten that down, you'll see the ET drop dramatacally.

Figure for every tenth in the 60 ft is 2 tenths off your 1/4 time.
