Celica GTS VS RX-8
Perhaps this thread has already been beat to death, but having owned a rotary, I think the only way to try comparing it to a piston engine is power cycles. A 2 rotor engine has 6 power cycles per revolution, so its kinda like a v6 in that one matter, but typically the rotary is much smaller in displacement and weight. The two plugs on each rotor both fire on each power cycle to get complete burn in a moving chamber. That Felix Wankel was a friggin' genius.
As far as direct comparison of displacement... that's about as useful as comparing either with a jet engine. Its just an entirely different animal.
I'll go but on my flame-proof coat now..

I dunno where you get a 14.8 for the GTS almost every magazine has only gotten them to a mid to high fifteen
For the manual rx eight ive seen some magazines get them to a mid fourteen and at the slowest a very low fifteen

There is no high 14 in a Celica GTS. I go to the track unlike civic boy who just knows that all imports are faster becuase he says so. He is the all knowing import god
but in reality he is wrong and it took him 4 paragraphs to try and insult me with no luck. The RX-8 is a high 14 second car and that is what I have seen at the track, GTS the best I have seen is a low 15. And Honda boy the mag time is mid 15s so I said low 15s because mags are usually off by a little. Read before you try and flame dumb ***. I love making you mad honda boy, it gives me great entertainment at work to see you get your panties in a twist.

I'm about 500 ft above sea level, and I have seen it. But apparently you don't like to read, unless it's in some magazine using, again, corrected times.

Ok fine. Use magazine corrected times for all I care. Just know that because YOU'VE seen only 15s in your what? 3000 ft above sea level track, doesn't mean all Celicas will run that.

i don't get it.......lol
2000Si, I don't normally take sides but I get the whole displacement vs. volumetric comparison. As for magazine times, I consider those an average. +/- .2 to .4 seconds in the 0-60 and +/- .5 because it does matter at what altitude, temp, yadda yadda yadda the run was done at. Personally, there's an RX-8 around my area that twice has tried to race me and neither time has beat me. The first time we stayed even, and the last time I pulled on him on the 2nd to 3rd shift. On paper is he is faster than me (2000 V6) In reality, he's a **itty driver. There's been other cars that I considered to be slower than me that just nailed me off the line and I screwed up my shifting so they won. On paper I should've nailed them.
Close on paper, it's a drivers race. Stock 05+ GT mustangs are capable of low and high 13's even 14's if the driver is bad. GTS or RX-8 I'm sure can run Mid to low 14's depending on conditions and drivers. Imports usually weigh less so less hP and TQ get them moving at the same rate as much heavier american car. That's just straight physics.
Flame on! [sm=badbadbad.gif]

What does ones' time zone have to do with anything? [&:]
Everything else, I agree with. As per what you've touched on, magazine times are corrected meaning they're not always accurate since different drivers do run different times. He's telling me that he's never seen one hit 14.8-14.9, so in his eyes because he hasn't ever seen it happen, it simply can't.
Times are on a case by case comparison. I've seen it happen, and within my first post I specifically said if the driver is capable it can, and has, happened.

2000SI i have a question for you, why do you even post on the mustang forums? Your obviously a huge import fan although you post a ****load on the mustang forums. You should really just go back to the honda forums, and leave the domestic fans alone. I could really care less what import guys think, i mean your spending a crapload of money on a fwd 4 cylinder. I drove a fwd car for almost 2 years, and once you drive a real rwd car why would you ever want to spend a bunch of money on an import, when you could make a domestic much faster for less money. Just my opinion but, i don't see why a honda guy is arguing with a bunch of mustang fans on a mustang forum. Thats the same thing as me going into a honda forum and starting crap just to start it.
