Default First Race

tonight i raced for my first time at the track. it is 1/8th mile and i was running tens. first i didnt do too hot and got a 10.6 something than i went to like 10.5, and got to 10.2's. So im guessing if i get a better reaction time and stuff maybe i can pull 10 flat. my first two reaction times sucked with over 1. than i think my lowest was only like a .780. plus soon ill most likely get a cai and maybe a ecu or chip. i ran around 72 mph, i hope to get it up to 80. my car ran a little hot though. why could this be? and its not only when im racing, it seems with normal day driving it also runs hot. i know my friends cougar ran hot after he upgraded it and was told to take out the thermostat beacause it was not needed because of the mods. so i was wondering if there is such thing as putting in a lesser psi thermostat so it opens sooner? lol i dont know. anyways, i had a lot of fun.

Try a 180 degree thermostat. With a low 10 in the 8th thats probably good for a low 14 in the quarter.

Well I dont know about that. I mean your 5.0 has more power than my v6 but I run low 10.20's in the 1/8 with my sixer and only come out on top with high to mid 15's???

Reaction time has no effect on you elapsed time, the timers don't start untill you leave.

yikes...how were your 60' times?

and was this in your fox, or your 65? i am, by no means, trying to talk trash, but my 6 cylinder automatic stratus coupe ran 10.30s, and it chokes through the quarter mile around 16.1...

I can't agree with that based on my experience.
My best 1/8 time is 9.327, and that got me into the mid 14's at the 1/4.

With 10.2 1/8 time, I think you'll be the the mid 15 range.

You want to lower your 60' times. But I still think you r either doing something wrong or there is something wrong with your car. Those 1/8 times r really bad. There is no way you r runing 14's with those 1/8's.
Not trashing you or anything. Just check the stuff out and make sure you aren't spining a lot off the line and stuff like that. What's your 60' times?

like i said..my dd runs the 1/8 in 10.3, and the quarter in 16.1...i hope that your 60' times were in the 2.50 range..otherwise i would be concerned that something was wrong.

yea i dont know why i said my reaction times would matter, i was tired lol. yes i do peal out like crazy and i know i need to ease off maybe a little bit but im still learning. ok my 60s are in the 2.5's in my first races and 2.3's in my later races. with 3.73 gears, what gear should i be in at the end of the race? i ran a 10.1 on one race, so maybe my driving isnt too good lol. thanks for recommending the 180 degree thermostat. oh yea, and if i took out my a/c pump would that help a little? the pump is there but the a/c box isnt. so there is really no use for it.
