Default Launch with auto..

I'm planning on bringing my 89 conv to the track weds. I have only drag raced twice before ( both with big block chevys ). I had always had trouble getting off the line. It seemed like I was stuck in a oil slick. Is there a specific way to get off and running? Should I be taking off in first? I will be on z rated street tires.

Also, How strict are the tracks about roll bars in convertables if I get into the 13's ?

One more please, What spec helmet do I need? I will have to buy one.

THANKS.

some tracks are strict about a recent snell rated helmet, some dont even check...if its your first time, and as long as you dont run like a 12.50, they might let you slide a little on the cage...

do you have any tranny work done, at all?

Actually, if the track is using NHRA rules, it's 13.99. Hit that or lower, you'd better have a helmet

I have the same problem. YES it's a V6, but I spin all through 1st. DON'T power brake. DON'T go through the water traps. DON'T just floor it. Try diferent things. I have to press the gas down kinda slow, but not too slow, til I hit 2nd..then punch it hard!

No high perf....It was rebuilt 2 years ago by amco. Stock rears as well, not sure on the ratio.

Do you think I will be in the 13's ? and what is the current spec helmet I would need ? What about the roll bar ?

No roll bar needed so long as you don't get under 10.99. And current snell rating is 2000. October they come out with 2005, but the 2000's are still good for like 5 more years. Or so says my Autocross car club.

Sorry. Hard to say if you'll hit 13's...but very good chance from your sig. I hit low 12's with my 70 Charger and got booted for not having a helmet. Hey, it was my first time racing it, and I shoulda known. It dynoed at 624 RWHP...I played dumb! LOL
Forgot to say..low 12's with the headers capped and on street tires! I probably coulda been in the mid 11's!

helmet is 13.99, yes...i meant with the cage..if he happens into the high 13s, they may let him slide on the cage...some places dont seem to know that a rollcage rules for the verts are different...i think that you might get into the 13s, but with a fully stock tranny and gears, it might be tight...but i dont want to guess and be very wrong...i thought that snell 99 rating or higher was required, right? but ie seen guys at a bunch of tracks run in the 12s with old motorcycle helmets.

most tracks have rental helmets, but take a bandana with you...my home track rents helmets for dirt cheap..but i dont let my head touch some rental helmet!

Are you sure it's 10.99 for a convertible ? Did they change the rules? I always thought is was 13.99.
Thanks for the info on the helmet. Where should I buy one? I have other cars as well, on is a 502 67 camaro. I would like to bring that out as well someday, if I can find the time. How much do the helmets cost ?

your best bet is going to online motorcycle places, they always have sales (especially this time of the year) on nice helmets...in jegs and summit theyre liek 500+ for a full face helmet, but you can get a nice bike helmet, which is snell rated, for like 150. i know that the cage rule is alot higher than 10.99, but i dont have my rule book here..sorry.
