Well the RS is more of a family sedan over it's bigger brothers...it's not meant to take that kind of abusein the first place. Hell even the clutches in the EVOs and STi's weren't made to take that kind of torture. I've read a bunch of stories that people have taken their EVOs back to the dealer after a week of racing them to get new clutches and Mitsu won't do it as warrenty work because people are destroying them so quickly.

I have read some of the same articles apparently, but imagine throwing in a hefty clutch that COULD stand up to such a launch, then you have a bad automobile...

to all: the evo, sti, and wrx clutches can hold with proper abuse. the best way to launch them is to hold the engine at 5k-6k and slip the clutch. these cars are not rs's. trust me.

boost it, boost it good.

I don't doubt the evo, sti, and wrx clutches can't hold up with PROPER abuse, but 5-6k dumps or slips is not proper if you do this very often.. Its common sense that ANY clutch willwear veryfast with big launches.

There isn't a whole lot different between the first gen RS and the WRX really.
2.5L NA instead of turbo 2.0L (or 2.5L turbo)
slightly different gearbox
a little bit softer clutch
Hell my RS came with lighter, wider wheels. It's got the rear LSD... the RS was a market test to see if Subaru could sell performance oriented cars in the N A market. The 15,000 or so they made from 98-01 sold well, so the WRX came over.
The RS came with a bunch of JDM WRX parts.
And no, the WRX clutch won't hold up to 6k launches very much. Do a couple and you're fine. Do them often and you're going to destroy it.

I just noticed you've got a WRX....
Next time you head to the track do some back to back tests. Run your aftermarket BOV and then run the stock one. Generally the car runs better with the stock bov, until you start getting into aftermarket ECU upgrades.

horatio. ive heard about the stock bov. i will switch back when i go to the track. but as for the stock clutch, mine has 12k on it w/ 20 or so 1/4 miles, plus street launching. at mmy power levels it does stink after hard runs but doesnt slip yet. after the rainy season when the huge turbo goes on my clutch comes out.

I've got 60k on my RS with hard launches a couple of times a week (times 150 weeks or so that I've owned it) and it's holding up fine, but I've known people to get nearly 200k out of a factory clutch in Acuras. No way you'll (or I for that matter) will get anywhere near that.
Big turbo + grippy clutch = broken tranny. You'll really have to adjust your driving style to prevent snapping the teeth off of first and second gears.
