I ran a 14.7@108mph my first pass. All wheel spin. I got down to a 13.4@108 by the end of the night, and still have a ton more room for improvement with that kind of mph.

Keep going.

My ego is way to bad to go to the track before I practice on my launches. Some red lines arn't going to hurt that engine, its made for that.

The only thing I find odd about your slip is the low trap speed. The 5.0 should be trapping well over 103... another tip is to drive through the trap, don't anticipate knowing where it cuts off and let off the throttle thinking the race is done. All I can think of is you shifted into 4th before the trap, and/or let off the throttle too early. If the RPMs will allow it try finishing in 3rd.

As others mentioned your biggest downfall is the 2.3 60'. That first 60 feet makes or breaks you. Get a low '60 with little to no spin and the rest is gravy. Of course this is the hardest part, especially with a manual because you have to be consistent with your launches. Find what works best for you and practice.

You could mess around with the tire pressures. I'd say lower the rears to about 25 psi, and you can even bump the fronts up to 40 psi. Tracks usually have air pumps on site for free, and just buy a couple buck tire gauge to fill up before you go home.

Just have fun, don't get disappointed, and practice. It's always nice to estimate an average base line time, and then compare that to the times you achieve when the mods start tacking on.

Come to the conclusion that i can't launch for sH*T and for some reason i've developed this new paranoia that something is wrong with my car. only since i ran the two passes. It's a brand new 13' with 1500 miles on it that i feel i broke in very well. i guess i feel that way because i've never pushed the car to it's limits like i did tonight. But i mean i didn't buy a 302 for nothing right? Surely the motor will be okay to track every now and then?

What do you guy say? It's okay? or give up the track?
Where did you run it at? If you went to little river then that explains the horrible 60' times. I've only been there once, and it's not a great track to say the least... Where are you located?

I wouldn't be to worried, don't get discouraged it was your first time out, good launches and ETs come with practice. Youll get some better runs in with time.

Anticipate redline and shift right before. If you're waiting for it, you're already too slow on the shift.

this was my first run with track apps. With me (250lbs,) my buddy (200lbs,) and a completely full tank of gass, ran 13.3 on the street. You can hear I got way to much spin on the launch (tires were cold also)

The thing is if you listen to the engine off the launch you can can hear how I do it, the launch RPM will depend on your traction, this launch was a little high, about 4k. Basicaly I sidestep the clutch (start at about 3k RPM while you get used to it) and hold the gas right where it is, as the wheel spin stops and the nose starts to drop, stand on the gas. I'll put the video up of my old car too, you can see the noze and hear the motor in that one.

60 foot shoudl be 2.0 or less

thats .3 off your time

MPH is way low, could just be the heat but i would still expect 108-115 or so MPH trap speed depending on elevation and conditions. was there a significant headwind?

and yea, what is your elevation?
