hey im just learning too but im getting better. if i were you, id learn how to powershift. also practice shifting into third -third is crucial because if you miss your pretty much done for. also, i dont know if your car has a traction control button, but if you race make sure its off.

Well, throw her into third hard, but first locks out anyway, at least on my car so go hard up and barely to the right. Try downshifting also, go about 50 and downshift to 2nd and hit the gas wot and see how that feels.

My tip for racing is don't race to win, race to have fun. If you are one of those who only races to win you are gonna get pretty upset sometimes. Of course winning is a nice bonus but think about Nextel Cup- all of those guys like to win but 42 of them don't each weekend and most of them still have a blast.

Double Clutching is a downshifting technique to relieve your synchronizers of stress or used more commonly back in the day for upshifts and downshifts when there were no synchronizers in manual transmissions. This is when you engage the clutch (pedal all the way out) between gears and rev match the engine to the proper RPM for the next gear you intend to engage at that speed. Then depress the pedal again engage the gear and continue on. You will find actually that if you do this properly you don't even need the clutch to engage the gears, but it is safer to use it.

Double clutching is smoother than downshifting without rev matching and especially in a RWD car allows more stability. Slamming it down a gear and releasing the clutch quickly with a high entry speed to a turn will cause the rear tires to slow down too quick and lose traction. Rev matching in modern cars is just as effective as double clutching, making double clutching a technique of the past.

I have a 97 gt and for the love of God if you race be aware of where your town's police like to hang out. I got 2 tickets for 'speeding' in my old ford explorer and I've had this stang a month and already got a warning. All just casual cruising. Never mind the bout of doing 120 on the highway racing my buddy in his evo 8..... some cop had me on his radar but he was going the other way haha and there was a concrete divider...

race for fun and in a place that is not down main street.... think safety too, kids like to run out in the street at rediculous moments...
